Hiding in the Light: Why I Risked Everything to… av Rifqa Bary
Very moving ! Incredible! Read it!
Rifqa was born in a Muslim world. Her family immigrated to America in 2001. In her teen years, Rifqa converted to Christianity, was threaten by her parents, then ran away from home.
Compelling; the risks of conversion from Islam are real, and especially harsh on children and women. Western assumptions of appropriate behavior from a father / husband to his family are not accurate when a Muslim man is shamed by his family's behavior.
An important story and an absorbing read. Ms. Bary reminded me how often I don't pick up my Bible because I take for granted it will be where I left it (in plain view, no need to hide). Grateful she now lives in freedom. Convicted to pray for those who still don't and to persevere in my own walk with Jesus.
Four stars for the story. The writing could stand to be more nuanced, but when I did some basic math and realized the author was 22 at the time the book was published, the style made more sense. Definitely a worthy read.… (mer)
