Hugh Howey is an American author who was born in 1975 and raised in North Carolina. Howey is known for his popular series Wool, which he independently published through Amazon.com's Kindle Direct Publishing system. The Wool series first began in 2011 with Wool as a stand-alone story. In 2012, Howey visa mer signed a deal with Simon and Schuster to distribute Wool to retailers in the USA and Canada. Wool (Wool, #1) av Hugh Howey

I did not realize this was going to be as short as it was. I got the eBook on someone's recommendation. I liked it. The premise was interesting. But, maybe because it was just a novella, the world building didn't seem very rich or complete and there wasn't a whole lot of character development. The very beginning, when the Sheriff is climbing the stairs, seemed to drag. I did like the explanation about why those who cleaned the sensors outside cleaned them and didn't just run away, but I kind of saw it coming, so I wasn't really that surprised at the ending. It was different, though, and I liked it. Three stars.… (mer)

Shift (Silo, 2) av Hugh Howey

I read this one out of turn (couldn't wait to find out the resolution to Silo #1, Wool so I skipped ahead to Silo #3, Dust as I had heard that this one, Silo #2, Shift was a sort of prequel).
I think reading Silo 1-3-2 or 1-2-3 could have worked either way, but I now see how 1-3-2 was more gratifying.
I loved experiencing the unimaginable psychotic Silo world building of #2, seeing the backstory of Donald, Thurman, and Jimmy/Solo. Solo's backstory was particularly heartbreaking.

A post-apocalyptic world, where the survivors are kept in the dark about what happened in the past and about the reality of the present. A well written page turner. Part of a trilogy.
