A collection of (supposedly) authentic letters written to the Draft Board (Selective Service) during WWII. They are hilarious. My parents bought and gifted many copies of this book during the war. It sold for $1.00, and my copy is the 12th printing.

I found this little book in a bunch of my Mom's books. It was written in 1948. It is a collection of letters written to some of the congress men who were in office at the time.

It will definitely make you smile. The letters are short. No true rants or raves, but some interesting comments! Being only 92 pages, it is a short read.

(As you can see, it has been around a while and I don't have the dust jacket.)

Collection of letters written to and by employers, insurance companies, soldiers and their families, unhappy customers, a "de-jobbed person, and a very bewifed and childenised gentleman" Indian [71], and injured workers. Many are letters to the "Morning Mail" seeking advice and information -- and found their way to the "Lallapalooza" Department.

The famous insurance claim by the owner of a 5-story house who tried to move a pile of bricks during construction. [115]

Letter to Hammond Map Manufacturers: "Gentlemen: Your envelope with expensive enclosures received. I am over 80, a retired United States officer and don't need any maps of this world. If you have any of the next world I might buy one--the lower regions particularly--something...most people ought to be interested in." [43]

The Index is not a topical or alphabetical list. Uniquely, it enables one to retrieve items by descriptive but brief summaries--which are themselves delights.

Reportedly, actual letters written to various war boards. Very, very funny, sometimes poignant. An amusing snapshot of life on the homefront during World War II.
