- Mark Roseman is an historian of modern Europe, with particular interests in the history of the Holocaust and in modern German history. At Indiana University, Bloomington, he is a Distinguished Professor since 2018, Pat M. Glazer Chair in Jewish Studies and Professor in History since 2004, and Adjunct Professor in Germanic Studies. Previously, he was a lecturer in German History at Aston University in the Department of Modern Languages; a senior lecturer in Modern History in Keele University's History Department; and a Professor of Modern History at the University of Southampton. Books include A Past in Hiding: Memory and Survival in Nazi Germany (2001) and The Villa, The Lake, The Meeting: Wannsee and the Final Solution, published in the USA as The Wannsee Conference and the Final Solution: A Reconsideration (2002).

Det här är en av LibraryThings förhandsrecensioner.This a very well researched history narrative told through interpretation of the letters and diaries of individuals linked through their membership in the "Bund". It is a chilling story of the individual, tiny steps in Germany before and during WWII. These are the idealistic individuals who believed in an ideal community and society. Their beliefs and hopes contrast sharply with their daily life of survival in a country plunging to the bottom. It is a story of small acts of defiance and helping of others. Well told.… (mer)
A fascinating account of a resistance group in Germany before and during the Second World War. The group started as a philosophical and cultural organization but its ethics required that it take a stand against the principals of Nazism. The members were academics and professional people, rather than political or military so their resistance involved helping and hiding people under attack rather than violence.
There are long discussions about the heart-searching and agonizing involved in belonging to the 'bund'. Because they were so secretive their work was largely unknown. After the war, they continued to struggle for recognition of their contributions.… (mer)

The book contained lots of facts and stories about an organization called the BUNT which aided Jews during the time of NAZI rule in Germany. The story of the BUNT was interesting in that it shows a different type of resistance than what one normally sees in fictional movies and TV shows. Their resistance was non-violent and at times barely noticeable. It could even be said that some or much of their motivation was selfish because their actions often aided their loved ones/close friends rather than Jews as a whole. Some of the stories were quite interesting while others really had zero effect on me.
The writing/book itself gets 3 out of 5 stars.
The narrator had a calm voice that worked well with this type of book. I wouldn't select this narrator for anything more lively but he was not a determinant to the listening experience. 3 out of 5 stars.
Overall, the book was an interesting listen which was well matched with the narrator. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in resistance during Nazi rule as it does provide some interesting facts/details about the time period and events. Overall 3 out of 5 stars… (mer)
