Om migMy family lived near Blackpool which was great for summer jobs, calling bingo and working on the Pleasure Beach. From there I went to Liverpool University where I was introduced to the delights of this truly great city. I spent some time rowing on Knowsley lake, right opposite a safari park. As you rowed you were treated to the delights of giraffe and zebra strolling by the lake side, it was just like being in Africa! I never did find out if there were crocodiles in the lake. Next I was off to Edinburgh where I enrolled in the TA as an infantry Captain, spending many a happy weekend on a mountain top, freezing in ice and snow! I have now moved south to a much gentler climate in Kent. I have also handed over my claymore and rifle to take up the sword, shield and spear of an Anglo-Saxon re-enactor, in Regia Anglorum. Writing is one of my hobbies and my current project is a fantasy trilogy The Prophecy of the Kings – sample chapters are at http://prophecyofthekings.com/

Writing Motivation

My interest in fantasy started with Lord of the Rings. Motivated by the epic tale I put pen to paper, determined to create a story with bold characters and an intriguing plot. The book’s initial scene was a betrayal set deep in the heart of a mountain. Encouraged by my friends I started writing The Prophecy of the Kings in the months during my wife’s pregnancy with the first of two sons. As with most aspiring authors, writing was part time, with the plot progressing in the evenings and holidays. At times the tale seemed to naturally take the characters into extreme peril, and for months I was left wondering as to their fate. Refusing to rewrite the tale to rescue them, I patiently waited before inspiration struck and the story continued at a fast pace to the next cliff-hanger. Suffice to say my sons have now grown and, as the quill dries, are of an age to read and appreciate this work. As to the characters in the tale, they too have grown older and wiser; as to whether they survived the tale, only reading the novel will tell.

Om mitt bibliotekI like fantasy but enjoy other genres. Historical fiction and some thrillers. I used to read Westerns and horror.

I have been super busy with classes this semester. I haven't gotten very much read at all except for my required textbooks. Unfortunately, those have been dry and boring this time through. I have the First Law trilogy by Abercrombie. I hope I can get those read after I finish with finals next week. I have off from college from Dec 9 until Jan 7. I want to read a LOT during the break. I have Patrick Rothfuss' first book waiting in the wings too. I kind of hate to read it when I know the second book has been delayed and the third book doesn't even have a tentative scheduling, but the book calls to me from the shelf everytime I walk past my library. I know there are a few others I am hoping to get read during my month off, but right now i can't remember which ones!

Take care, and have a wonderful holiday season!
