I'm stopping by to wish you a wonderful holiday.

Linda
Hi,
Thank you very much for offering your book. This mooch has turned a bit of a nightmare.
I've just emailed the person I'm angeling for explaining everything and if he is OK with mooching it from you I'll let you know to arrange it. I'm truly grateful for your help.
Have a nice holidays,
elwen
DOB, I received my Secret Santa selections from you and I am thrilled with each of them. I just love to read writers writing about their love for books, as in "Ex Libris" and the variety of contributors in "A Book Addict's Treasury" has me in a state of delighted anticipation, also, I loved "The Namesake" by the author of "Unaccustomed Earth" so I am curious about her short stories. Thank you for the considerate selections you made. You couldn't have been more on the spot! I hope to share our common interest in books in the coming year. Have a wonderful holiday season!Mary Beth
I'm glad you like them! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do; juding by your collection, I think you will. Merry Christmas!
Jen- This is the general thread:http://www.librarything.com/topic/73347
You can find the link for the 1st week thread on there too! Glad you can join us!
Mark
DOB- Yes, Belva started the Group Read thread: http://www.librarything.com/topic/73347
So stop by and star it and stop by my 50 Book Challenge and say hi. I finished "The Eyre Affair" today and it was a lot of fun! A blend of mystery & fantasy, with classic books, as a major plot line! It probably qualifies as lighter fare but I will continue to read the series. Hope you are having a great weekend!
Mark
DOB, Great description of the baby boy! The weather has been gorgeous, hasn't it? (I'm in Downers Grove!) You saw the link to my challenge, right? We'll stay in touch about the G.R. I'm getting ready to start "The Eyre Affair". Are you familiar with it?
Mark
DOB- I'm so glad you are interested in joining us. I have not started an official thread yet, I'll wait a couple more weeks. You can follow the details on my challenge: http://www.librarything.com/topic/72418 BTW, how's the little one doing?
Mark
A wonderful reason - belated congratulations!! Enjoy your little one!
Lucky you - not only did you get some lovely shelves, it sounds like you didn't have to put them together! Actually the hardest part for us was getting the box up the stairs to the second floor. We quickly decided the best thing to do was open the box and take it up piece by piece. Oh the thigs we do for our books! :)
Hi - Sounds like we have the exact same bookshelf! We happened upon it in Costco and took the last one they had. We'd look for another if we could figure out where to put it. It really is a lovely piece for put together furniture.
Hi - Thanks for helping me out with the proper placement of books reviews on the site - as I'm pretty new here it is nice to know that the members are always willing to help out!

Bookmonkey
I mailed an ARC of The King's Rose to you yesterday. I hope you enjoy it!
:)Alisa
Yayyyyy, congratulations! He's beautiful :) Hope things are going well for the whole family!

~Kirsten
Congrats on your beautiful baby boy!
DOB- A new baby boy! That's wonderful! Is it your first? I'm sure you are loving every minute of it...or almost! Let me know what you think of "Netherland".
Mark
DOB- Boy,that was fast! Hey, congratulations on the new baby! That's wonderful! Boy or girl? Get your reading in now because once they start to crawl...forget about it! Hope you enjoy the book!
Mark
Hi there! I haven't gotten to my blogroll yet, but I wanted to find out... Is it a baby yet??? Hope you're doing well!!!

~Kirsten
Glad I could be of assistance — and nice review! :)
Hi Devourer! I was browsing the recent reviews this morning and I noticed that you had a review for The Shadow of the Wind that looks like it should actually be for a book called How to Mess Up Your Child's Life. I'm not sure if this is a system glitch or what, but I thought you might want to know.

See you around :)

~ww
I reached you via my random member option and simply want to congratulate you on the best picture I've seen on LT. Great!
Peggy - who also reads......
DOB

I see that you own the latest Kathleen McGowan book..
did you read her first?
( Expected One )

Did youread the new one?

what are your thoughts?

kath
You have me intrigued by this Twitter book club? details please..
Thanks, I appreciate that. It’s interesting to see how different people take away different things from books. You know what else? A few weeks ago I listened to his audiobook of When You Are Engulfed in Flames, and I liked the sections recorded in a studio much better than I did the bits he recorded in front of a live audience. He’d pause for a laugh and that wrecked the flow for me.

I don’t think I’d call him obnoxious, but I’m one of those who thinks he’s going to be read 100 years from now. I do think that DS thinks he was obnoxious when he was a kid, and that comes across in his stories. The one where he stuffs all his Halloween candy in his mouth so he doesn’t have to share any with a neighbor’s kid is a case in point.

I’ve read where some critics think he’s going to be our next Twain, but I think he’s this generation’s J.D. Salinger. His sister Amy Sedaris is also funny as hell, I asked for a copy of her book on entertaining, I Like You, for Christmas.
hey, sorry about the very long delay in replying to your comment. I see that you did accept that copy of "tunneling to the center of the earth," and in my opinion, it was a wise choice. Over the past few years, I've become a devotee of the short story form, and I'm really enjoying what a lot of contemporary writers are doing with their short story collections. I don't know what you thought about the book, but I flipped for Kevin Wilson's writing, his play with the surreal amidst the banal, the way he divulges novelty quirks about characters, only to render said quirks beside the point. I think his language is evocative, if a bit devoid of the sensory (I have to agree with the NYTimes Book Review on this), but he makes up for it with a startling sense of the present. I reminded me a lot of Miranda July's short story collection, but, with respects to July's book, a bit better, a bit sturdier.

let me know what you thought. again, i apologize for the delay.
Thanks for the encouragement. Based on your comment about it getting better, I've gone back to "The Last Prince of the Mexican Empire" and, though it's still a bit slow, it is getting better.
Thank you very much
I hope you find it interesting. Not got many questions at the moment, so if you do have anything you want to ask about the Grey sisters in general, please feel free!

Thanks!

Tamise
I see you have read 'The Sisters Who Would Be Queen' by Leanda de Lisle.

If you have any questions about Lady Jane, Katherine or Mary Grey, Leanda will be answering them at my blog.

If you want to ask anything, please do so by April 15th.

Thanks!

http://ladyjanegreyref.livejournal.com/2...
Just curious if you read "First Comes Love, then comes Malaria" as an ARC?
Thanks -- I'll do that!
Love, love that picture! I thought I was bad reading books at all kids sporting events for like 12 years!!!!!
Unfortunately I have not read it yet. Until you messaged me I totally forgot I even had it. I picked it from the review stack because the synopsis on the back reminded me so much of the old Twilight Zone episodes I used to watch in black and white as a kid. I looked very briefly at some of the writing and nothing stood out as either outstanding or particularly egregious, so I figured the chances were good that I would enjoy it. I say what the hell, give it a try :-)
done deal...Alchemist's Daughter is reserved for you for 2 weeks....you do your thing...and i'll do mine, okay?

jal
you're the first one for ALCHEMIST'S DAUGHTER...so it's yours..i'll do the reserve bit toot-sweet.

jal
Thanks again, I've mooched the books. And there's no need to refund a point--I seem to have plenty of points, probably because I have quite a few listed (I also sell used books online, so I list ones that aren't worth much on BookMooch--though it's all a matter of opinion, isn't it?). So no worries.

I just noticed your listing and review of Four Queens--that sounds like one I'd enjoy. I'll have to add it to my list--the mountain of books to be read is very, very high.

Cheers,
Elizabeth
Hi,

I'd love to have the Twilight series (so I can judge for myself!). My name is the same on BookMooch. I'd really appreciate it!

Elizabeth
Hey, thanks.
Hey Jen:

Good hearing from you. I don't usually read reviews prior to reading a book, so thank you for the offer but I'll pass.

I'm glad to hear that you like it so much and I'll look forward to getting my copy in April. I have tons of books to read before then, so won't be pining for it.

I'm reading a very good historical fiction right now - an ARC of Blindspot by Jane Kamensky and Jill Lepore. It takes place in 1764 in Boston and is about a Scottish painter outrunning his creditors and a woman who is estranged from her family and passing as a young boy as the painter's apprentice. I'm really enjoying it.

Take care,
Karen
Hi Jen:

I saw your post about getting The Tory Widow from Christine Blevins. Being bold, I wrote to her asking if I could have a copy since she sent me an ARC of Midwife. She said she only got 12 copies this time, but might get more in April and would send me one then.

You'll probably read it before then, so let me know what you think!

karenmarie
I like your user name. It sort of reminds me of the book of monsters in Harry Potter chewing up pages with the teeth. ;-)
Ok, I just have to give you props on your polite but firm smackdown of the screaming Twilight invaders in Book Talk: http://www.librarything.com/topic/57342#

My first impulse was to scream and rage at them. You are obviously much more of a lady than I am.

Cheers, FP
HI, just joined the Bookmooching group & was going thru some of the posts. I might have a Plaidy or 2 you want. I'm on vacation right now, but check me out as soon as Feb hits. (I also have Gellis if you like her). My BM id is mhekerr.

Chelsea
Well the planets seemed to have aligned. I found another copy of Here Be Dragons today at a thrift store. I will post it on BM and reserve it for you. It is a bit worn so you can decide if you want it. Thanks.
Hi, your comment is listed 1st on my comment page but it wan't there when I accepted the other request. I'll keep my eye open for more Penman books and let you know if I get them. Sorry about that.
I see you went and got a copy of "Novel History". I stumbled on it when I was looking up another book about writers and writing and ended up starting it immediately. Have you had a chance to look through it? I read the articles on books I'd already read first and then the others. I've added to my TBR as a result.

What was especially interesting was that different historians have different takes on the value of historical fiction.
No, Jen, I haven't read it but I saw it profiled in a Barnes and Noble flier and it looks very good. Lucky you!
Hi! No, I haven't read it yet, but it's on my list for my ARC Challenge this year. I think it sounds very interesting and it's not a large novel. It's not a topic that I've read much about. I wish I could better help you decide. :) I got mine out of the blue, so I didn't have to make a decision beforehand.
Thank you so much for angeling those books for me!
Hey there,

Thanks so much for my Santathing selections - they were a great choice and I'm sure I'll enjoy them!

Marcy (Strongstuff)
I am so glad - I was hoping it didn't get lost in the mail. There's nothing like a little holiday gift after the holidays! Enjoy! =)
Hi! I am your SantaThing! Did you receive your books yet? When I looked back and read the SantaThing profile, it said that one of your books was on back order and would be mailed by mid-January. I hope you got the other book at least!

Whenever you receive them, I hope you enjoy your books and that 2009 is full of many wonderful things, including babies and books! =)

Best wishes,
Jill
Merry Christmas, Jen! I hope you have a wonderful holiday season. I'm so glad that we met this year.
Just curious, did you not like the Twilight Saga?
I have finally read The Scarlet Pimpernel. The prose was occasionally over-wrought, but I'd expect that for the time it was written. The story was wonderful. There are quite a few more books about The Scarlet Pimpernel. I might have to check them out.

Hope you're doing well!

karenmarie
I noticed you have a few of Edward Rutherfurd's novels in your library. I saw them when browsing at the bookstore this afternoon, and was wondering what you thought of them. You seem to have similar taste to me when it comes to historical fiction. Thanks for any input.
Thank you so much for snatching those two books for me! *does happy dance*
Circus Queen is all yours! Send me your address and I'll get in the mail asap. bluehwys at yahoo dot com.
Hi there Devourer! Did you tell me that you wanted to do the group read of The Mists of Avalon? I've started threads for the group, and the four books in the Mists. The main, spoiler-free thread is http://www.librarything.com/topic/47384

Hope to see you there in November! Earlier, too, of course, should you want to go boldly forth.

Cheers
RMD
Hey. I use the "that IS a bargain" tag for any book that I either got for free (which is why it's on all the ARCs in my library) or got for far less than the printed price (for library sale books or ones I get off the bargain table at a book store). It is more of a note to myself so I stay within my book budget than a comment on the quality of the books.
ha! I have a really hard time turning down fiction.
You can read my review here (I need to start adding these to LT!)

I wasn't crazy about it, but she's a good writer.
Thank you so much. I am also on BM if you want to go through that way (same ID as here) If not I can send you my address, I'm in Canada, I hope that doesn't create a problem, if so I understand.

I don't get to read it everyday but I do have your blog bookmarked! I love your profile picture too. Thank you again.
hmmm what was up with them anyway? kids... sigh....

thanks for the note, it just made me smile more...

and believe me, ithas been a long week and I was looking for a smile..
I love knowing that I can come here and find nice people..

Thank you !

hugs

Did it greet you with flowers on the streets of Baghdad?

...?

You live down the street from me, then? ;->

RMD
Thank you, Devourer, I have liberated that anecdote to those who will pass it on.

Cheers
RMD
Great story, and I agree with you about what it says in re: Obama and his priorities. May I please share that story with some of my fellow Obamians?

RMD
O Devourer, YES please talk to me about Obama and books!! I am a supporter and I need bolstering for a few of my friends who are wavering under the onslaught of McCain's experience capper from last night's debate.

Cheers
RMD
Hello DB,

As I know you love history, I have a wonderful book for you to devour! We are planning a Group read of “A Pirate of Exquisite Mind” starting on 3rd November 2008. I would like to invite you to join this Group and to participate in the Group read.

Your participation would be welcomed and appreciated.

Thanks for your reply!
I know what you mean about the chick-lit reference. I loved the ending too. I'll be sure to check out your blog. BTW, I love your TBR calendar.
Let me know what you think of Sarah's Key!
You're quick! It will go out Monday or Tuesday. - L
Oh, no!
I cannot find that copy of "The Spanish Bridegroom"!
But I am in the midst of moving so hopefully once I am all settled I will be able to find it. There should be another book you might like, too about Victoria & Albert.
I will let you know if I find them---so sorry!
Just wanted to let you know that we've been given permission by Tim to continue the BannedBooksLibrary project!
Hello,

I had seen on the bookmooch group forum that you would be interested in Jean Plaidy novels. I might have an extra copy of "The Spanish Bridegroom" to list if you would be interested. It is about Philip II, the husband of "Bloody Mary".
thank's that is so cool of you most people don't want to give me the time of day so it's cool to have someone to talk to and thank's for the invite to ask question's and I already love library thing I can't see how I can like it more.

thank's
thank's for the tip I just joined so i'm not all that clued in your tip will help alot wish I had of known that the other day
Hi there. The BannedBooksLibrary project has been put on voluntary hold. (It seems that Tim might not want us to do it. See the conversation with Tim Spalding starting at message 34 for further information). I'm still planning on upgrading the account to paid, since I think LibraryThing deserves the money even if the project is killed. I wanted to double check to see that it's okay with you, since you contributed to the fund. If it's not, we'll try to work out a way to get you your money back.
Oh! Thanks for the smooch!!! I haven't even had it accepted yet! Too sweet! It had better happen now - though I'm good for refunds. :)
I suddenly saw how many wish lists your book was on - so I have mooched it for you. I will let you know the progress as soon as I do!

Lyn
Hello,
I saw your request for an 'angel' mooch on the post - I will mooch it for you if you don't mind me sending surface mail; I have no idea how long that might take - it could be three months. It will cost enough by surface mail to post, it would be cheaper to buy the book if posted air mail! :)

Let me know if that is OK - he is brand new to Bookmooch and he needs a request to help with his points so I am happy to do so.

Lyn
Okay. That was totally cool and super fast. Thanks!
Absolutely. :-)

That will put us right in between "VERY generous" and "We love you!"

Is it all right if I send you a payment request through PayPal? You don't have to have a PayPal account, just an e-mail address.
Lifetime memberships start at $19 and end at $55. I was planning on being "typical" and give $25 (which is what is automatically selected). Thanks for the offer to contribute, but I have no problem covering it. :-) Is there a way to throw money at LibraryThing beyond paying for memberships and buying merchandise?
Hi DevourerOfBooks! Thanks for adding BannedBooksLibrary to your Interesting Libraries. If you're interested in helping out with the project, just let me know. Happy Reading!
You WON!!!!
(imagine some kinda trumpet based music here!)

Won't you look lovely in your LT shirt, the envy of all your friends...at least the ones who don't say "What's Library Thing?"

Please let me know your desired shade and size and address via either private PM or email. (also on connection to BM and then just email me.)

Thanks for playing! Random bit of trivia - Sept 18th was also Greta Garbo's birthday!
Thanks for sending me to the blog on Darfur. I'd like your opinion on the Darfur book you will be reviewing (Tears for Darfur? I read so many titles on the blog, I can't remember the one you are doing.)

I am in the process of setting up a blog--since this is new to me my son is helping me. I'm in California and he lives in Buffalo Grove, IL, so it's taking time to get me trained. I have several posts up but I haven't learned to make links yet. As soon as I do I will review The Translator (not quite finished with it yet, almost) and put it on the blog. I feel like she did--in May when I got the list of lectures for 2008-2009 season I had to look up Darfur to even see where it was--this really has been happening beneath the radar and I am appalled! This is why I'm anxious to be well prepared for the lecture. I'll have some tough questions to ask! I appreaciate you info.
Aw. Well, that's too bad, but thank you so much for your efforts!
Thanks for the info about the Constition for Kids book. I looked it up, and it's already out, so even if I couldn't get a review copy, I'll be able to buy a copy. I may wait for your review first to do that, though. :-)
I've only just started it...I'm about 3 chapters in, but enjoying it so far. I'll give you a slightly more detailed impression in a day or two when I've got into it a bit further!
Hi - I'll second Talbin's thanks! I read The Kite Runner a couple years back, and while I recall much of the plot and the basics of that scene, I don't remember how graphic it was - clearly not enough to strike me as "too much." (Note to self: skim through my copy of The Kite Runner.) Thanks again for letting me know, that would have driven me nuts!
Marie
Thanks for letting me know what the book was - you can't talk about something like that and not say the title! I've had The Kite Runner on my TBR pile for a while, but haven't gotten to it yet.
I just left you a comment about The Necklace on your site - I would LOVE to read/review it!!

Thanks for your consideration,

Wendi

Taks care!
You're welcome! I apologize for being a little late in sending it; I had a hectic week. I hope you like it. =)
Thank you so much for being my BM angel!

If there's anything I can do for you, just ask.
It possibly can't be me that it hates..i am such a sweet, nice and kind person LOL...so it must hate Quebec or Montreal LOL
Thanks for accepting my friend request. What a cute profile pic. Is that you?
I went into one of your reviews (the one about Laura Bush) and the same thing happened..got the error message...
Okay i will go and see if i can comment in another section and let you know LOL i wouldn't be surprised if they hated Quebec LOL..
Still can't enter the contest..this is it says after i enter my info:

Most likely causes:
The website is under maintenance.
The website has a programming error.
When i went into your blog to enter the contest after i filled in the comment i got the error message then. Does that help any? please let me know.
Great! My username is the same over there as well. Thank you again!
That would be great, thank you! Do you use bookmooch? I'd be willing to mooch it from you so you'd get credit. If not, let me know and I'll just send you my address.
Aww, thanks, that's sweet. I'm not offended....I know people tend to forget to be civil online, but not everybody apparently :-)
Thanks for the connections invite! Also, I love your profile picture!
Hi again--

I just answered your question over on my page, but I'm also really happy to hear you loved AMERICAN WIFE, which is my faovrite novel of the year. She's a wise, masterful writer and I hope the book is a big succes and people don't give her too hard a time. People who complain about the book will not have read it.

All best,

David
Haven't managed to crack Two Brothers yet. I was completely turned off of a Civil War novel after I read Hallam's War, unfortunately. It is in my "to read very soon" pile. LOL
Thanks for pointing that out - "also on" has been updated :)

I still have A Wrinkle in Time and will gladly reserve for you. Just drop me a line if you decide you don't want it after all. Thank you!

~Kirsten
I had been thinking about it and trying to figure out the best way to post the 12 steps on my blog (as a regular post or on the side bar, or what?), which is why I hadn't put it on there already. I decided to do it as a regular post, because my sidebar is so skinny (and I only have one - for some reason my template won't accomodate two bars). Anyway, I've now posted it here. If you want to link to it or put it on your blog, that's fine with me (and feel free to tweak it or change anything you don't like).
:-)

fleela got The Necklace, too.
I am trying to be careful of ARCs. For a while there i had so many I had no time for the
books I really wanted to read. Interesting about the necklace....wonder why we got it ?
I have no memory of requesting it either.
I just finished First Daughter... did not enjoy it nearly as much as I had hoped.
oh well.. such is life.
hah! good, I am glad you know too...
I wonder what is up with the extra titles from this month?
oh well..

I just got The Necklace from Random house. No idea why, but I will have to read and review it.

Did you get anything in July? I have fire. I think its slightly better than The Eight, as far as having TOO much
of too many people and things. Especially in the past. All in all okay read, but reads that will go to mooch.

hope you are having a good day :)

kath
Actually, *blush*, I had listed my ARCs to see how many people had wishlisted it. When I did it, I thought I was just going to burn through them... toast 'em and post 'em... but it hasn't worked out that way. I'm slowing down badly. I can only hope that I'll speed up again when school starts back up again. :-D
Why thank you. Thank you very much. :) It's something to do that keeps my mind off the blazing heat outside.
No problem DoB! I'll bump it up higher on the TBR list for you. Claire
I had to tell you!

A miracle has happened! Someone mooched Doctor Olaf van Schuler's Brain by Kirsten Menger-Anderson!!!!!!!
It is a guy from CA. I sure hope he likes it,
Some else mooched one that I thought would languish on my inventor forever. What a surprise :)
kath
Just letting you know Glimmer Palace arrived. Thanks!
sigh...

Oh well... I actually do have it on bookmooch... trying to mooch away my guilt of having a book for free that i simply
cannot read or review.. I didn't request it. It just showed up with a few others...

I feel better knowing that someone else find it uninviting :)

kath
Doctor Olaf van Schuler's Brain by Kirsten Menger-Anderson.

Its one that came from Algonquin.... I have had it for weeks.. and I swear, I keep wanting to toss it against a wall....lol

Would you like to have it?
Hooray! Glad you liked it. (was the pool in Mexico for your honeymoon?) And, what an exotic setting to read it in! I wrote that I was going to start it after Shades of Glory, but then I started getting ARCs like crazy, thanks to you, I think.

So I'm working through ARCs and bookclub books now - just finished Stealing Athena which I thought was excellent, and will start One More Year this evening. Plus, for bookclub I've got Born on a Blue Day. Oh, and am reading ARC the Power Makers.

I've read the first two Willig books and have the third. I found that after reading two in quick succession that I was just not in an appreciate enough mood for the third.

Have you checked out the group devoted to the Scarlet Pimpernel?

Take care,
karenmarie
I saw your review of our book "Victor Kugler -The Man who hid Anne Frank. Thank you for your thoughtful review. Please let us know if you are interested in reviewing any of our books and we will look into sending you a complimentary review copy.

Thanks for sending the book and congratulations on your wedding! I hope you're having a lovely warm honeymoon somewhere...
I hope the wedding was great and you are relaxing on the beach already. Let me know how you liked the hotel, I saw your post on the ER thread. My cousin is having a destination wedding at the same hotel in April.
I just requested early reviewers books for the first time..I hope I get one! It was fun!
Dervishes is in the mail too. Enjoy, and thanks for the exchange!

Gwen
Yeah, I couldn't resist too much longer. I didn't realize LibraryThing had so many cooler features than GoodReads. I'm having fun playing around on this site!
Hi again..

I wanted to let you know that I wrote and asked for an advance of Lacereader, and I just received an email saying, yes, we will send you one.

I am so excited!

Thank you so much for the heads up :)

kath
ps

Beautiful blog!
Thank you for that info! I will write to HC immediately and hope for the best.
Don't you just love LT's ER program?!

I have been fortunate to receive a few books, but none in the last 2-3 months.

Again, many thanks for the info, I will let you know what they say :)

kath
Yeah I got a response to a comment on your site I think? Anyways glad to hear it :)
Thank you thank you! I am delighted to get a lead. Benedictions, Richard
Just letting you know I got the books you sent me :) Glad you liked "Victor Kugler"... I'm looking forward to reading "Queen of Shadows" when I get a chance!
I just wanted to say that I love your blog, and I have added you to my blogroll! And that ARC reading challege seems harsh...wow, good luck!
http://skrishnasbooks.blogspot.com
I just mooched Hogg & Criag - I am so thrilled that you're sending it!! That probably sounds funny when you look inside the cover, unless you love maths, but it is a fantastic textbook and i didn't expect to find it on BM. no hurry for posting it either - after your wedding would be fine.
14 days until your wedding?! I didn't know you were getting married, Congrats! I'm shocked your able to get any reading done at all with what all you've got to get done! Many blessings :-D
By the way, did your PubLunch subscription ever start? I was wondering if you were stil wanting them forwarded. Happy to do so, BTW. ;-)
Thank you for the advice and adding me. The URL for the Wordpress blog is in the "about me" section on my profile. By the way, what is "Sunday Salon"? I've seen it on several blogs, including yours, but I have no idea what it's about.
I've been sitting all morning fidgeting with the wordpress blog. I FINALLY figured out how to add links. So you were the first blog added on my roll! :-D
Re: Dracula
I read your review - it sounds really really good. I understand if you don't want to give it up, I've added that edition to my wishlist and it'll come up sometime. But if you DO want to give it up, I'd love to have it. My BM ID is the same as it is here.

The Frankenstein edition sounds really good too!

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question!
Brenda
Oh, cheers! Actually, I would love to know how the genesis of Alive in Necropolis came about. Did the story come to him fully formed, or did he sit down to write, for instance, a cop story that to which the supernatural elements came later, or story set in Colma, or what? There's just so much going on in the book I'm intrigued as to what came first. That's wonderful that he'll be appearing on your blog, by the way. Congrats!
Okay, I'm starting chapter four of The Gargoyle, and I must say it is bizare, graphic, beautiful, compelling, graphic, and did I mention bizarre? I think I like it, but the whole burn thing is really gross... yeesh. I suppose what I'm trying to say is... you were right But don't tell anyone I said that! :-D
Lol okay that took longer than I expected! I guess next time I need to pick the faster option :) But glad you got it, and I hope you enjoy it.
Yup, I've still got it. I sent them off an email with your info, so hopefully you'll end up getting a copy :)
*the*... oh my god, why can't I type???
Lol I went to Boston for my cousin's graduation from Harvard. I had a pretty good time (J.K. Rowling was one of the speakers and she was amazing!), although they weather was terrible... I presume you mean "The New Yorkers"? I confess I was going to ask if you were interested.
okay that should be *to*...!
Cool! I was out of town for a few days but this was a nice surprise to come back too. Sure take your time :) Whenever you get around to sending it/them is fine.
I am so excited!!!! It will be first on my list as soon as I get out from underneath this pile of ARCs (six right now! ACK!). I'm going to have to not think about that spooky face on the cover too much... I might have to set it on my nightstand upside down... ;)
No problem, and thanks again. It's one book that I can wait to read.... :) For someone who's about to get married you're still managing to read a lot of books!! Hope you have a fantastic day.
I'm glad you loved Middlesex, it was a really great book. I don't know why we weren't LT friends before, I was kinda shocked by that, too... I suppose just 'cuz we always talked in post and never thought about it. :-D
Thanks for the update. Did I mention that I love your blog?
Our router at home isn't working, so my LT addiction is restricted to working hours this week...am getting more books read though!
I found your profile page via Rarcar1's page. Enjoyed looking at your book selection & your blog! I'll likely be back to browse some more! Happy reading! :')
Thanks for the assistance with the possible name change. I'm still deciding if I want to hassle with it- since people know me both ways- Lisamm and Books on the Brain. why oh why wasn't I just consistent from the beginning [{slaps forehead with palm of hand]]
Thanks for the tips on the giveaway. I'll let you know when mine is up. How are the wedding plans coming along? My cousin is getting married in 2 weeks and is a nervous wreck. Erin
I was afraid that would be the case. Still, you need books like that. I'm hoping that it will at least make me happy I'm married and not dating (after 10 years you need that dose of singlehood reality every so often).
I did get contacted about Have I Got a Guy For You. It arrived yesterday and I'm looking forward to reading the chapter about the Dungeons and Dragons convention. I know guys like that...
Lol I think you and Literate Housewife may have set everyone else in motion. Looks like now everybody wants their names to match their blogs!
Thanks for the head's up on your name change. I may change mine to match my blog as well. Have you been getting many books from Shelf Awareness? I am waiting on 6! How is the contest going? I can't believe you are almost to 100 posts. I may do one soon to create more traffic to my blog but with this LT group my traffic has increased a lot.
Cool! You're right, I would have been confused.

I almost, almost picked up The Scarlet Pimpernel yesterday when I was feeling edgy and not knowing what to read but picked up Firefly Rain by a fellow North Carolinian instead. I'm loving it so far! I will get to to SP - probably after I finish Shades of Glory - my boring challenging April ER book.

Did you know there's a group called We Seek Him Here... for fans of the Baroness and the Scarlett Pimpernel? It sounds like a religious group, doesn't it?
Congratulations!!!!! Your change suits you well. :)
Smart idea. I'm trying to decide if I should change my name to Books on the Brain- I messed up when I started my blog so whenever I leave comments it says LisaMM, not BOTB, so I wasn't sure what was best to do on LT. If there was a way to change my name on wordpress to match my blog (and who knows, maybe there is), I would change it everywhere to be consistent.
You are the best!!! I need to get everyone's links and set up a new page on my blog. BTW, I found a graphic artist for my website and I am SO thrilled! I'm hoping that by this time next month my website will be up and running!!!
I am openly admitting to being an idiot, but where is the Tuesday Thingers group? I thought it was part of ER, but I'm not seeing it... Please help me! :)
Hey, I'm notoriously bad at getting to the post office, so I do apologize. I know I said last week, but I'm sending [Victor Kugler] out today. Again, sorry it took so long, hope you enjoy it.
Hi: I just wanted to say that I think your contest is great. I will be linking it to my blog www.bookshipper.blogspot.com We don't seem to have books in common, so I won't be participating in the contest, I would rather give the chance to someone else - but thank you for the great idea!!! Nitestar
I've officially made the request to change my username here to LiterateHousewife. This may very well be my last speedhaven comment... I'll have to change my avator, too. :)
Hi Jen, thanks for the info on the barcode scanner, but I only have maybe another 50 books to enter. I give away so many of my books and only keep the ones I feel I have to keep (not that many!) The ones that are going in my LT library are the ones in my TBR pile, or the "keepers", and all the ones I've read for my book club. So it's not really overwhelming at all.
I got your address from last time. You're golden.
Hi Jen, thanks for the comment! I am new to this but it seems really fun.
I would go with announcing it early and making your 100th post a celebration by announcing the winner.
Hmm, since it's your blog, it's your contest, and therefore should fit into what time is best for you. I guess I'd probably announce it now if you think you'll make it to your 100th post pretty soon, but if you aren't sure you'll make it (what with the traveling/wedding plans) you could consider waiting until after the wedding. Sorry this is probably no help at all!
What kind of a contest or celebration do you want to have? I think that will determine how you go about this. Either way it would be great. I did a contest where I had someone pick a book for me to read and, after reviewing it, I sent it to her. If you have that kind of a contest you'd want to announce it sooner. If timing is an issue, and it sounds like it could be, I would go with announcing it early.
Thanks!! I bet he'll be surprised to get a mooch request for that one...
You're the first :) Just leave me a private comment with your address and I'll try to send it out this week. I hope you like it!
Middlesex is one of my favortie books of all time! It's lyric, Homerific at times, and hypnotic. It drew me in with the first line, "I was born twice: first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day in January of 1960; and then again, as a teenage boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, Michigan, in August of 1974." and didn't let go until the end. It's an odyssey, of a hermaphrodite finding her/his true self. It's one I could reread... and I'm not big on rereading. I wanted to turn it back to the front and start over again when I finished. It might even make the list of books to take to the Desert Island. You'll have to let me know what you think of it!
Never heard of them at all. Post something on Talk?
I gotta ask, jl - when you say that you gave Two Brothers away - I'm assuming that it was to someone who needed a little kindling.
Ugh. My link isn't working. I probably left something off, but here's the address without the link: www.tracisbookbag.blogspot.com.
I wanted to thank you again for the heads up on the Penguin Classic program. I've posted about it on my blog, and I added a thanks to you with links to your LT profile and your blog. I wanted to be sure it was ok with you, so if you'd take a look at it here. If you have a problem with the post or my linking to your blog or profile, let me know, and I'll delete it. Thanks.
:-)
Traci
Hi jl:
I read your review of Two Brothers with interest. You were wise to give it up when you did. Believe me, it only got worse.
I just started my blog so it's not very exciting yet. I have 3 reviews to post which I hope to get done tonight. www.journeythroughreading.blogspot.com.
Thanks (on both comments)!

Carly
Thanks for sharing, jl. Oh, if it were only a matter of flowery language......
Hi,

Would you mind sending me that e-mail address from Random House for Franklin and Lucy? No one else has responded yet. Thanks!

Carly (carlym)
The Staghorn thing is pretty creepy. I don't have my email on LT - If I did, I wonder if they would have tried to contact me too. If you don't mind my asking, what did they want?
The Nen. I like it. And, honeymoon? Congratulations. My 17th anniversary is in one week exactly, so I'm a fan of marriage.

I, too, am more neurotic about books since joining LT, although I'm reading a higher caliber book more frequently.

Keep remembering that reading is supposed to be fun and DON'T make it too much of a chore. You don't want to lose that joy and if it's a reading for pleasure book, you don't really owe anybody anything.

I saw The Inner Fish mentioned on a thread somewhere. Haven't bought it yet. My husband is willing to buy me all my 888 challenge books for my birthday, so I'll get it end-of-June. At least it's on a list now so I won't forget it. LT is making me more organized, for sure.

Thanks for writing!
Hi Jennifer, I am interested to hear about your experience with ReaderViews. I have been debating on joining for a while now. Thanks, Erin
my copy came Monday or Tuesday... haven't gotten too far in it yet...
Hey Jennifer. Yes, it's me regarding The Scarlet Pimpernel. I will probably regret it, but I added a 9th category to my 888 challenge, called The 9th Category of things I absolutely must read this year. I just added SP to it, after an interesting book called Your Inner Fish.

Good reading!
Glad you got Firefly Lane! I am embarrassed at how long it took me to send to you. I had set it aside to mail, and, well, you get the idea. Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for "wishing" for High Spirits! Hurray for Front Street Reviews!
That was a particularly nice review, too. I will have to explore their site more because it looks like they do a good job with the books and I also like the way they display the covers for new reviews on their front page.

Cheers and high spirits!
Dianne
I'm so glad that it arrived. I can't wait to see what you think, especially after learning more about FDR beforehand. I got my copy of Then Venetian Mask today! I also got Gilding Lily. I never got a chance to respond to your comment about that. My contact at HarperCollins emailed me about it. I have three free books queued up to read. It's great to be in this situation, but there isn't as much freedom. Life as a reader is such a give and take...
Saraminda has been mailed. Beth
I know just how Avaland feels. It's really quite an honour. Thanks for doing that!
jennifer, thank you for the honor of listing my library as an interesting one. I'm always surprised when someone does this, my library is interesting to me, but to someone else? Best, Lois
Hi

If you send me a private comment with your address I'll mail "Saraminda" sometime this week.

Beth
Wow! Great! I sent it media mail, so I thought it would be WEEKS!
:o)
I'm glad you like the spreadsheet... I thought about adding it onto my blog, but blogging my book reviews takes up enough time per book that I didn't want to mess around with posting an updated graph every time I finished a book. I guess I could post an update once a month or something... worth considering.

In any case, enjoy, and if you come up with any other stats you'd like, let me know and I'll add them in. :)
Okay, I mailed it out today Media Rate. Please send me a comment and let me know when it arrives.
:o)
Okay! Just leave me an address in a private comment and I'll try to get it mailed in a day or so.
The trouble with owning all of these books is finding a place to store them. I am trying to be a little more conservative and use the library more than I did last year. I figure that if I read a library book and really love it that I can be on the look out for it. I just found an old Book Club version of Silver Nutmeg by Norah Lofts and I am over the moon about it. I'm going to work on a post about my finds at the recent library book sale. There was some great historical fiction finds there.

I'm also working on a list of TBR books similar to yours. There were a lot of great selections you mentioned.
Jennifer, hello from another Jennifer at LiterateHousewife.wordpress.com. My LT name is speedhaven. I think I'm going to change it to LiterateHousewife, though. You were easy to find since we share so many of the same books. :)
