Om mitt bibliotek I'm cataloging our household library, slowly. I estimate we have about 5000 books, but we'll see as I go how accurate that is. Until I get closer to the finish, what's online will be weighted by the areas of the house I get to one by one.
Our library includes a lot of: Jewish books (adult and children's), young children's books, older children's books, classics, history (primarily ancient and US), sci-fi, cozy mysteries, cookbooks, knitting and fiber-related materials, family-friendly comics, classic Russian literature and poetry, health (especially rare and chronic disease management) and education.
I'm trying to destash unused craft books and homeschooling materials, so look on BookMooch for those over time.

I enjoyed Mary Roach's Bonk, but I fear I'm far too squeamish to read about corpses in Stiff (my home page showed you just added it).

This will be no help to you at all -- I got the Bavarian cookbook as a gift while I was living near Munich. You can get it from Amazon for a heart-stopping $40! Anyway, it's a good cookbook for all those heavy, mid-winter type dishes. We all crave it now and then, but a little goes a long way! When we were leaving Germany, all our friends there delighted in cooking us many, many good-bye dinners. But now, three years on, we are beginning to want the occasional semmelknodel or spaetzle.

At this time of year, I mostly miss sitting under the old chestnut trees in a biergarten. The one near us had a playground at the far end, so families with children congregated there with their elaborate picnics (I learned to bring a neatly ironed tablecloth!) and liters of beer or apple juice mixed with fizzy water. Sigh.

It's a brand new interest. I just bought a Harsch crock, and I'm hoping to have some interesting pickled vegetables and chutneys around by the end of the summer. I have never before canned, but I may end up trying that before peaches and tomatoes go out of season. How do you like The Big Book of Preserving the Harvest?

Free time? What is this "Free Time" you speak of? lol... actually, two kids are gone to dads right now, and the third goes to summer school, so I have a pinch more time. And YES, blogs are very interesting journies of self-discoveries. The descisions of what and how much you tell to the world at large are also another big thing. I've written a couple blog entries that were very revealing and I worried what people might say.

One thing, though, I've also learned is most people click, glance and move on. I could write a murder confession and get a "LOL! I know what you mean!" comment. There was a lot more freedom when I realized that.

I wasn't offended at all - I thought I was unclear that I was talking about people who are ask first. It's hard to offend me - you have to really work at it, or refuse to respond to a mooch! (it's the only thing on BM that drives me crazy.)

I adore books like this. Sometimes you can find the neatest things to try that you'd never heard of. I also like them because you can find good instructions on how to do older crafts.

That and it's are very quaint to see the attitudes towards hand working.
