Plan 9 is way after my time, i'm sure....The Bandbox, at one point, had maybe a dozen or so stores in various SE cities. The one in Williamsburg was a bit of an anomaly,i think as it was in a college town - with, at that time, a VERY white student body (i went through a 1970 yearbook a while back and i am quite sure there < 10 black students in my class of '72.) The mgt decided towards the end of my tenure @ the bandbox to base their profits on selling to the Wburg black community - all two blocks of it @ the time. The problem was that the blackploitation junk they insisted on draping all over the store attracted no positive attention from anyone. And then to have the owners make the assumption that given the new clientele they were aiming for, they'd have to be violently reactive to shoplifting an album was ...beyond the pale for me. The chain wasn't big enough to order directly from the record companies, so we went through rack jobbers. But, all the same, i could order any and everything i wanted (excepting classical music); which for a music junkie was pretty great
