Om mig I love reading, doy, why else would I ever do something like this, and I am always looking for books I haven't read--although I love rereading old favourites. I got my love of reading from my parents, who started collecting books for their children before we were born. I have done the same. :)

I'm a stay-at-home wife and a mommy of a wonderful little girl. :D I fell in love with my husband when he said he liked and had read Pride and Prejudice. (I just found out he's read more Jane Austen than I have.)

I also enjoy writing, deer-hunting, horseback riding, reading blogs, photography, hiking, cooking, chess and watercolour painting.

Om mitt bibliotek I have a lot of books, but I don't have all my favourites--yet! I like books in pretty much any genre except horror. Okay, that's too general for me, I like fantasy, westerns, Christian fiction and non-fiction, children's books, law, historical fiction, medical thrillers, cookbooks, etc.

The books on my catalogue are favourites and ones I've read recently.

Good to hear from you. Have you had your baby? Yes, I am a part of Mars Hill. I never really appreciated it as much as when I attended the Isn't She Beautiful conference Rob held in January. 90% of the attendees were visitors. It made me realize what a blessing it is to be able to go there week after week. I'd love to hear how your study is going with Velvet Elvis. I should probably pick up his new book. Have a blast with your new baby. 'Til we meet again.

Hey there, thanks for the message on the Mars Hill Readers group board. I was pretty much giving up, and have been too busy to check on the site (knowing that no one was going to leave a message.) Then, alas! There were two. Hope to see you back there. P.S. I'd fall in love with a guy who watches Jane Austin too!
Thank you for the note, it's good to have a timeline, I hesitate to keep asking expecting women when they are due. I remember at one point I just wanted to wear a sign around my neck with my due date, also a "Please don't touch my stomach" sign. I guess the way other people think it's fine to pat a pregnant woman's stomach gets the mother used to never having anything of her own. :)

I couldn't help seeing the note about "Sacred Parenting", which I have not read, but I know that I have learned more about God and dying to myself through parenthood than I ever would without my children. A book I wish I had read sooner, "Shepherding a Child's Heart" by Ted Tripp.

Blessings to you, it seems like forever, then suddenly your baby is 19 years old and living her own life. :)
In response to your question about Sacred Parenting... I haven't read the entire book, but I think so far it's excellent. I know that this is a different paradigm. That raising children can actually be a part of our own sanctification. i would recommend reading it!

Btw, you're right about the Blue Like Jazz - the emergent church kind of says, anything goes as long as you tag a love of Jesus and sincerity to it. There's so much emphasis in the NT about putting off the old man and putting on the new, transforming into the likeness of Christ, the process of sanctification, the disciplines of godliness, Christ was our first example and you see it over and over again in the Christians of the New Testament - Paul, Timothy, Peter. I agree that it's thinking outside the box - but sometimes that's not a safe place to be! Keep in touch!
I haven't read Velvet Elvis, but have heard that I need to. My fav is Dallas Willard. He can be a little heady but also quite profound.
You found a man who both read and liked P&P! Okay, if you ever come across another one, you will have to send him my way.

Don Miller is definitely one of my favorite authors at the moment, though that changes often with the exception of the immortal Jane Austen. Not only is his writing open and very honest, he makes good sense in a time when I think a lot of Christian writers are falling off the mark.
Thank you for that link, especially the half.com one. I didn't know it existed. I looked up Dorothy Sayers and now I'm drooling....
I hope I run across those cookbooks sometime, they sound right up my alley. I used to read Gourmet regularly, until my recipes-to-try binder became too big to contemplate. I love to read cookbooks that are as much about people's lives as they are about the food.
If anyone who has Bel Lamington by D. E. Stevenson is interested in selling it, please contact me. I want to buy it for my mother-in-law. Thank you.
Hello, thank you so much for the suggestions! I just found two books by Al & JoAnna Lacy at the used bookstore (inexpensive is good for me). Have you ever read them? They look like books my ladies will like (there are about 5 women who consistenly read fiction). Due to lack of shelf space, I do try to limit the church library to exclusively Christian books, authors who are not easily found in our public library. Of course if I come across an author I love, whose writing is sound, I put them in too. I wish everyone in our church liked reading as much as those on this site do :)
Congratulations and blessings upon you during this time of your life. I hope and pray that you may grow closer to God through motherhood, as I have. Enjoy!
