Om migI'm Lisa, and I'm a bilioholic. Welcome to my world.
I work in a library by day, and I'm an independent book reviewer, freelance writer, and member of the National Book Critics Circle. I also write a bi-weekly newspaper column about books, and goings on at my library, in a newspaper owned by the Chicago Sun-Times group.
In addition to being a book collector and former online bookseller, I've also owned a book search company in the past. I think you could say books rule my life.
I hold a B.A. in English literature from Dominican University, River Forest, IL, and soon hope to pursue my Master's in Library and Information Science.
Om mitt bibliotekI have a large library of 18th and 19th century works (mostly re-prints, alas). I love old leatherbound books in fine bindings, and have a few of those as well. Modern Library edition books are another interest. I love the older ones with the illustrated jackets best. In addition to being very pretty to look at they're very practical and stand up to lots of readings. I have a few Folio editions, a few Easton Press leatherbounds, and collect Virago Press, Persephone and Norton Critical editions. Can't wait to see what my book total actually is. I haven't a clue!

I was just seraching through the members who share the books I like. I must say you have one of the best profiles on Librarything. As I read about you, you were an online bookseller, what do you suggest the best online bookshop. Because I mostly get my books online, according to my liking formats.

What a perceptive Secret Santa you are! A Junior League cookbook was an inspired choice - I have a few, although none from that particular region, and am always on the lookout for more.
Many thanks, and Happy Holidays to you,
Beth

You are Miss Woodhouse! When I saw the name I thought my cat of that name had been entering her books in Library Thing when I wasn't looking.
Interesting collection, yours. I'm just getting started entering mine.

I noticed you had read Dance to the Music of Time. What would you recommend as a follow up as I really liked Powell's writing?
I have not gotten around to adding all my books to the library thing, but a list of my favorites is online at http://counsel.cua.edu/peg/books.htm
I am looking for the next perfect book.
Thanks
Peg

The Kite Runner has a special place in my heart as well, and I enjoyed your review.
I have to read Big Stone Gap next for book club and sadly, your review has me dreading it a bit. I grow weary of fluffy reading, my expectations are so high these days.
Have you read Dandelion Wine? I was sorry I hadn't read it sooner, it was magical, another I recommend to any who will listen. Nice to meet you,
Mel

It seems we have books in common...and I have only cataloged most of my last two years of reading! And it seems we have similar positions as I am events coordinator for a moderately large independent bookstore...(my true destiny was probably the library system but I took a most roundabout route in life...) I just was sent this librarything site by a sales rep & book buddy who knew I was leaving the bookstore... Although I don't expect to discover someone who has the vast reading tastes that I have, I've been fascintated to see the connections made so far.

As far as family members' comments, my mother thinks my love for books is a fixation!!!! She is a voracious reader herself, like most people in my family, but not as much as I am, and so she thinks I buy too many books and blah blah blah... I just added most of my Australian books to my catalogue, but unfortunately I can only dedicate very little time to Librarything during the week, and that time only in the evening, after work. So I am proceeding very very slowly and have so many books I still have to add.... but I enjoy myself immensely in doing it and I relish every minute of it. You are right, it IS an addiction!!!!

I very recently joined this WONDROUS website and, so far, I have not had much time to catalog my books (as you can see from the limited amount I put in). I am very happy to meet another Virago passionate, and I just discovered Persephone books, thanks to another booklover from this website.
I just could not live without books, that is a fact. Some people may think I am mad, but who cares? A neighbor, when I was moving in the house where I now live, noticed the countless boxes full of books and asked me what I was going to do with them after I had read them.....can you believe it? I believe I just smiled, there was no polite reply to a question such as that one.
So far we share 30 books, I am curious to see how many they will be once I am done with my catalogation (even though I have no idea when that will be, as the number of my books keeps increasing....)

I prefer the term "talking". "Interface" does sound a bit weird...sounds like that Kligon-romulan mindmeld sort of thing

I'm not happy with my blog either.
I could try to imitate the voice of Miss Drake or try for Miss Dashwood. I did do this a few times for Jane Fairfax on Austen-l where a friend played Mrs Elton (the same woman who plays Miss Schuster-Slatt).
I don''t know that I was convincing, but one problem is if you try for this "voice" really it limits what you can say.
So I sign these pseudonyms, but really use them as aspects of myself.

I went over to your blog and discover you write to Harriet. And sign Miss Emma.
On my blog I write to Fanny Burney d'Arblay and Miss Harriet Vane.
I sign Chava to Fanny and Miss Sylvia Drake to Miss Harriet Vane.
I have only once or twice written to Jane and Mrs Charlotte Smith. I have yet to sign as Miss Elinor Dashwood.

Well if you're looking for something extra (as if you need it), pray pray forgive and forget and have a look at my ECW (EighteenthCenturWorlds) where soon (December if you have the time) we'll try Rousseau's _Julie, or The New Heloise_ in an English translation.
I believe I've got that one down in this library.
I hope you, children, and husband are all well.
