Om migThe Providence Athenaeum was founded in 1753 as the Providence Library Company (which merged in 1836 with the Providence Athenaeum). This library is the fourth-oldest membership library in the United States.

Om mitt bibliotekThe books included here are those from the original library of the Providence Library Company, purchased 1753-1758. A fire at the Providence Court House destroyed most of the collection on Christmas Eve, 1758; some seventy volumes out on loan at the time survived the fire.

Those titles from the Founders' Collection still in the collections of the Providence Athenaeum are included here with the Athenaeum's call number in the Comments field. Other titles which survived the fire (as designed in a 1768 catalogue of the collection) but which no longer are held by the Athenaeum are also included here.
