Om migI started reading as soon as I learned how. I also am a collector so my library grows on a weekly basis. I live in Southern California and there are plenty of resources to find old and new collectable books. My main subjects are Western Ameriana, Horses, Native American and Childrens books pertaining mostly to the west, horses, etc. My intrests in horses and cowboys have led me down a wonderful path from childhood when I couldn't afford a real horse to my adulthood which has been enriched by my own horses and the ability to pretend I am a cowgirl from the old west and so many wonderful books to help me with my fantasy.

By the way, that's me in the pink, my sister in the blue, and the best jockey that ever sat a horse, Laffitt Pincay.

Om mitt bibliotekMy library has taken over, I have run out of room! I prefer First Editions and of coarse hardbacks with origional dust jackets. Many of the old Western Fictions that I have are with the original dust jackets but I have many that do not. I am continuosly upgrading. The Thrill of the hunt is always invigorating! I have been collecting horse books since childhood with many Firsts. These are my main favorites because of my love for the equine. I have wonderful first editions of books about the Triple Crown winners, Secretariat, Seattle Slew, etc., many of which are highly prized by todays collectors. I have a large collection of Western Americana, many valuable items that I stumbled on years ago when I had no idea of their rarity. I also have many volumes of Old Western Fiction from the teens, 20's, 30's and 40's.This is just some of my intrests which seems to grow with every wonderful volumes I find both new and old.

As you know, the Native American books are almost endless.I have chosen to zero in on Apache stuff with some plains Indian books from my years in Colorado. Most of my books are used, mostly because they are cheaper and easier to find. Many of the older books are out of print and only available used.
I have had good luck with local used book stores and on the web at www.abebooks.com.

Pat
You have some good Apache books in your collection. You are the first person that thought my books were interesting. Thanks for the thought.
Thanks so much for adding my library to your "interesting libraries" list!

Thank you for adding my books to your list of interesting libraries.

You're a horse-crazy girl but you don't have Molly Gloss's bestseller The Hearts of Horses? That's a big gap in your collection, Hon. Or Molly's other book, The Jump-Off Creek, for that matter. Both are western novels of the first calibre. Look 'em up. You'll love 'em. - Tim
Hi Linda,
good to see you´ve placed my library at the interesting ones. As you see there aren´t many books on horses in mine, but I have an emphasis on Australia. Haven´t co mpleted my library yet, still need to find the time to do it.
Why the nickname ´Aussiecowgurl´? What you connnection to that great country? (Is it because of Phar Lap?)
Anyway, I see only one Michener in your library. If you enjoyed that one, I can recommend ´Centennial´ and ´Chesapeake´. Long reads, but absolutely worth it.
All the best,
George
It's been a while since I've been here, but saw your note and thought I should reply. I enjoy reading the early westerns. Wish I had more time and money to invest. Try reading some Charles Seltzer. Currently trying to gather all of Elmer Kelton's books.
Hi. Thanks for checking out my beloved books. I see we share 19 books, and they happen to be some of my favorites. (Alive! the 2 Caleb Carrs! Dylan!) I'm new to computers, so I'm still trying to figure out how to use "tags," etc. But I do love my books. Are you familiar with Edward R. Hamilton Booksellers? I buy a lot of tomes from them. Anyway, thanks. p.s. I live in nearby Downey.
Thanks, Aussiecowgurl, glad to meet another horsey person! Hope you have a great time at the Breeders' Cup. It should be a great year. Got a favorite runner right now? Enjoyed browsing through your collection of western books. A lot of the horse books I read as a kid were based in the West, like the Golden Stallion books and Mary O'Hara's books. Do you collect many books on Australian racing? There's a fabulous reference book on Thoroughbred stallions published in Australia a year or so ago, Great Sires of the World. You might want to watch the website for Eclipse Press in Lexington for new releases (and their annual warehouse sale!) I tend to pick up more historical books than new ones, or else new ones that are only of interest to pedigree nerds like me! I've had fun hunting for copies of the old horse and dog books I read as a kid, and like you, try to pick up first editions if possible.
Let me know how your Breeders' Cup trip goes!
Howdy. Thank you for your kind words. It's nice to know others are looking at my collection. Most of my Custer books were bought before the onslaught of the Web and online bookstores. I know I bought some of them at the Little Bighorn Battlefield bookstore back in the mid 90's. I use abebooks.com a lot to locate or search for titles, but I try not to buy too many online. I like to feel/touch a book in my hands before I buy it. My interest in the Little Bighorn has a very Irish aspect to it, many Irish fought and died there. I hope to, someday, write a historical novel with the battle as background.
I enjoyed browsing your library, you have a lot of interesting stuff. Keep in touch. Regards.
