Om migWhen you read any of my posts/opinions/reviews, please keep in mind:
a) I am not an expert in anything and don't profess to be
b) I read genre fiction and I don't think less of myself because it "ain't literature"
c) I don't have "proof" for anything I say because: see a) & b)
About half my reading is done via audiobook format while I do other things (train for marathons, for example). I like my books mature, easy to read and moral-free. Other than very rare exceptions I don't read short stories at all.
Other than children's books, anything with teen angst (YA), historical fiction, and traditional romance - I'll read mostly anything.
Om mitt bibliotekWe have a loose household rule that we're not supposed to buy/keep books so most of my reading comes from the library and my audiobooks come from Audible.
Collections:
Books are grouped by their format (Books, Audiobooks and Ebooks)
To Read
To-read books to which I already have access.
Wishlist
To-read books to which I don't yet have access (i.e. I must go buy them).
Books in French
I've started reading books in French because I like the challenge, and it forces me to savor the story 'cause it takes me so darn long to read it.
Tags:
Apocalyptic
a.k.a Dystopic, Post-Apocalyptic, Dystopia and etc. I use the one tag "apocalyptic" which includes any material that has the ending, new beginning, or post-ending of humankind/earth as we know it as its topic.
Crime
A catch-all for any mystery, detective, crime or non-horror thriller I read. (I don't read cozies).
Reacher Replacement
I love Lee Child's Reacher character and am constantly on the lookout for similar types of characters.
12 in 12
An LT challenge wherein I am attempting to 12 books in 12 categories, plus a bonus 20.
Religious
Includes any book with a religious basis, premise or over-arching theme, regardless of genre or religion.
The rest of them
The tag name should be self-explanatory.
Star Ratings
I don't expect a genre novel to be great literature, but I do expect it to be logical and sensible and written with some minimum of skill.
1 star means the book was unpleasant to read.
2 stars means the book wasn't worth the time to read. I won't read anything else by an author to whom I've given 2 stars or less.
3 stars is what I'd consider an average book which was acceptably written but which is not particularly engaging and would neither encourage nor discourage me from reading more by that author or in that series.
4 stars is slightly above average for its genre and indicates that I'm very likely to read more books by the author and/or from the series.
5 stars means the story stuck with me and/or it really surpassed my expectations and/or it made me think about something in a different way. I will try to find more books by these authors.

I've never seen a cat look that pissed-off; love the photo.
So, I was reading reviews for Dead I Well May Be by Adrian McKinty, and liked the flavor of yours, so here I am. I note you're on a quest for Jack Reacher replacements, so, while not really an exact match, I think you'd enjoy The Killer by Tom Wood, and it's possible you have access to his second book that hasn't been released in America yet (since he's a Brit and you're in Canada) called The Enemy. Which reminds me, The Killer was released as The Hunter in the UK, so perhaps you should search for that name, instead. Anyway, hope you like it; I did.
Take it easy,

I got the ARC of 20 Years Later you won in the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program in the mail last week so you should be receiving it shortly.
Thanks again for your interest in Emma Newman's book!

I'm sure you'll enjoy the sequel, just don't wait too long. I did and had to reread the first before starting "Judas Unchained". Imagine!
I'm waiting to get the Naked Dawn Trilogy all together before starting; three more big ones.

We share some similar views, ie, book ownership is so overrated, and, we both rely on audiobooks. With regards to the former, I've got to dump some of my books becuase the piles are getting crazy, and as for the latter, I don't know how I would "read" were it not for the commute!

I'll have to give Oryx and Crate a try.
And say, if you haven't checked it out already, my favourite audio book of the last few years is Neil Gaiman's "Anansi Boys" read by Lenny Henry.
BTW - Yup, I'm from Edmonton, AB.
