Om mig I am a reference librarian at a Maryland public library with an appetite for books that keeps my bookworm status healthy. I have an undergraduate degree in English Literature and I'm starting work on my MLS in the fall. Someday, I want a room entirely filled with books - my own private library. For now, I have to settle for one wall covered with stuffed bookshelves.
Om mitt bibliotek A pretty random collection of books, from classics to forensic non-fiction to chick lit to modern satire. I've got eclectic tastes.
The best way to see what I've been reading lately is to check out my 50 Book Challenge thread (linked below in the website field), where I keep track of everything I'm reading this year.

I went through your library to see what Canadian authors you already had books by.
I see that you have Fall on Your Knees by Ann-Marie MacDonald, unread. That is a fantastic novel. If you enjoy reading it I also suggest her next novel, The Way the Crow Flies which has similar themes.
I see that you have Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood, also unread. I have not read that particular novel but I have read The Handmaid's Tale and The Penelopiad and recommend them both.
The Lives of Girls and Women by Alice Munro is also quite good.
You may also enjoy Swann by Carol Shields.

No, I am not Catherine but now I am intrigued that we have similiar tastes in books. Do you know if she is a member? I would love to browse her library!
Sorry it took me so long to acknowledge your request. Hope you are reading something wonderful.

Thank you (rather belatedly) for adding my library to your list of Interesting Libraries. May I add you to my list, as well?
Read on!

With TV the way it is I doubt if much will be shocking to today's pre-teens. We all talk about what we are reading and it opens the doors for all of us to think about things. Some of the better books I have read were recommended by my high school boys (who are now both away at college). Teaching children to think is what is important, and if they are reading about genocide, or prostitution or what ever is controversial, then hopefully they are forming opinions and reformulating opinions as they mature.
I wouldn't give them a subscription to Penthouse, but I pretty much leave them to their own devices and they seem to make pretty good choices. But every parent needs to decide that for themselves, and consider the childs maturity level.
My mother banned Fanny Hill and The Godfather and I can still tell you what pages all the dirty stuff is on. If I tried to stop them from reading something I can guarantee it would be the book they would hide under the mattress. That's just the way kids are.

-A true friend stabs you in the front.
-A man can be happy with any woman, as long as he does not love her.
-Bigamy is having one wife too many. Monogamy is the same.
-Always forgive your enemies - nothing annoys them so much.
-I am the only person in the world I should like to know thoroughly.
-Life is too important to be taken seriously.
------Oscar Wilde.
I feel I can identify with all these quotes (I'm not sure what that says about me!)

Good friends, good books and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life.

Thanks for commenting on my profile. I think it was Oscar Wilde who said something like "The great majority of people confuse purchasing a book with reading it." Or maybe H. L. Mencken or someone.

Thanks for sharing your quote with me. I think there was a time when it might have described me as well but now I'm not so sure.
I will have to get back to you with a quote that best describes me.
For now all that jumps into my head is:
The lunatics have escaped from the asylum.

The truth is I just saw your profile page and your username (which is great by the way) and that quote just jumped into my head. I'm glad you liked it.
You do have a pretty random and interesting collection. I like your poetry books. Have you thought about joining the group Poetry Fool, it's a fairly interesting and active group.
