I live with my family and work near Washington, D.C. We're big Nationals fans, though the team, sad to say, hasn't done all too well lately. Oh well, there's always next year, as they like to say. The Redskins in the winter months do better.

We lost our two cats (20 and 14 years old) and, after a year, got a new one. It's working out okay -- she also now rules the roost.

I've written a few essays (Charles Williams, Bart Spicer, Ed Lacy) and interviewed (Dorothy Uhnak, Dennis Lynds, Stephen Greenleaf, Bob Wade a.k.a. Wade Miller) different crime fiction authors. You can google if you'd like to read about them.

I also write the four P.I. Frank Johnson mysteries. I've published a short story collection on my lady P.I. Sharon Knowles, A CLEAR PATH TO CROSS. Linda Fairstein, Barbara D'Amato, Megan Abbott, and Anne Frasier have generously blurbed my books.

Hi there, and thanks for the friend invite! I look forward to reading some of your books in the future.

Sorry about the loss of your cats....that is tough, I know. Been there, done that. I still mourn those I've lost. We now have two brothers, tabby cats, both huge (19 lbs each) and spoiled rotten. As you say, they "rule the roost" and as long as my husband and I continually acknowledge that fact, well, it's just better that way. LOL

I'm always looking for a new PI. I still have gift money at Amazon so I will be reading Pelham Fell Here soon.
My favorite author is impossible to say as I keep adding to the list. Right now I'm reading Ian Rankin. But I've read so many of his I may catch up to his pen.

Good grief Ed - how many friends does a man need? :)

A ready readership no doubt, I have to confess I am not familiar with your work but unsurprisingly I am now intrigued.

I'm currently on a wild ride with Joe Lansdale's Hap and Leonard series and waiting for the new Connelly to hit the mat, but I'll put you on my wishlist and let you know what I think.

Guns, Love and Betrayal huh? - Throw in whisky, heartbreak and revenge and you've pretty much got it covered.

... and I was so sad to hear that James Crumley had died :(

Just finished 'The Blue Cheer' and I must say your description of rural life is uncanny. This is my first year of living in 'the rural ghetto' in southeastern ohio. I left the city, near cleveland, and moved to a log home in a town where you have to cross the Ohio river to go to any big box stores. I just wish I could of been a part of this life style sooner.
anyway, do you know that in Oakmont P.A. every May they have a mystery lovers festival? Authors and readers can meet. The mystery lovers bookstore sponsors the event.
I did enjoy the book and after reading I had to play 'parchment farm' by the blue cheer

You have the Big Book of Pulps too! Do you find it's often the case of wondering which will win when you're reading it: your desire to finish the story OR your wrists? I love it though. Got into mystery/crime/thrillers via PG Wodehouse, oddly enough - I was living in Dulwich in the UK, where he went to school and while busy churning my way through everything of his I could get my hands on, he mentioned Raymond Chandler went to the same school for a while. So then I started in on Chandler's stuff and that was that.

A friend and I like to carry on in the style, you know: "she had the look of a dame who'd done too many things, too many times"; "she sashayed in, naked to the waist....from both ends"; and we have even invented a character called Further Peruse, with the tagline, "no matter how far anyone went, she'd go further."

Enough wittering: shall have to look out your stuff and see what is the what.

Hey Ed, Thanks for the invitation. I checked you out on Amazon.com, and damn if you aren't a real live author! I tried that route in my youth, but kept losing manuscripts etc. I published some stuff in pulp magazines that I actually got paid for...(worst crap I ever wrote,) and I respect anyone who can make a go of it in that business.

But I'm sure it's tough. Maybe when I finish entering all my books on LT (I'm almost finished,) I'll pick up one of your books and give it a read. Maybe I'll actually pay for it and boost your income by a buck.

Thanks for linking up. I have Sue Grafton's mysteries on my to-read list as well. I've heard she has a good sense of humour. I soon finish rereading Oracle Night by Auster, but I plan to read more books of the Jack Reacher series this year as well (last year I read 3, my favourite is Killing Floor so far). There are so many good books out there, it's hard to find time to read everything one would like. Good luck and keep up the good work!

I don't check this often, sorry for the delayed response. Matthew Reiley writes some very fast paced high intensity action books. The Scarecrow series is best if read in order, but similar to the Jack Reacher series by Child, it is not requred for you to do so. Later versions will likely only spoil who survives in the earlier ones for you mostly.

Ed, Thanks much for sending the Greenleaf article/interview. I had no idea the Tanner books didn't sell well and I'm surprised given some of the not very good series that go on apparently forever. However I am very glad Greenleaf is still around (I was afraid he had died) and was delighted that one of his favorites is Ross Thomas who also happens to be one of mine.

I don't much like Saving Grace (and miss Wanted; stupid TNT) but like The Closer. It's interesting what they're doing with the whole FBI/LAPD interactions with Brenda Leigh and Fritz...

PBS made 3 Tony Hillerman movies (Skinwalkers, A Thief of Time and Coyote waits starring Adam Beach) and a direct-to-video of The Dark Wind starring (of all people) Lou Diamond Phillips was made.

It'd be cool if they (TPBs) decided to make a movie or series off Kay Scarpetta, but I doubt it'd happen. Though with the success of Bones ya never know.

cool...be a great movie, in fcat i don't know why crews stuff hasn't been adapted. The knockout artist is another classic. Just finished reading death in Breslau a polish novel about a amoral cop in 1930's germany..pretty good...

May I recommend for you Karin Slaughter and Alafair Burke. I just read Angel's Tip by Burke and it was pretty solidly written mystery. I've also enjoyed Anne Frasier as well. Must run and thanks!

I had had accepted, too, but it expired. I've been meaning to try Ken Bruen but few of his books are in ebook. I am going for the Jack Traylor (?) series, book 2, I know but will have to start there for now until I find the first book. I am also a big Dennis Lehane fan. Thanks, For asking me to be your friend. We have no books in common in our libraries, but I see that have Stephen Greenleaf. I read his books several years ago. I enjoyed them. I do like mysteries I will check yours out.

Hi! Thanks for the invite to be friends. Your name is somewhat familiar to me, although I know I haven't read your novels (not yet, anyway!) - have you had short stories published in EQMM or AHMM? I subscribe to the former and have for 20+ years, and pick up the latter from time to time, and I'm wondering if I've seen your short fiction there...

The cool thing about your library is it is filled with books I have not read inculding yours. I can honestly tell you that is hard for me to find "new books".
