Om migHi,I'm Ed Lynskey. My newest P.I. Frank Johnson mystery title is TROGLODYTES (see cover art here) due out in February 2010.

REVIEWS OF TROGLODYTES:

"[Ed] Lynskey does a good job of wisely using the exotic locale without letting it interfere with a solid PI yarn. Highly recommended."
--Jack Quick, 4-Mystery Addicts Yahoo Group & Book Bitch

I live with my family and work near Washington, D.C. We're big Nationals fans, though the team, sad to say, hasn't done all too well lately. Oh well, there's always next year, as they like to say. The Redskins in the winter months do better.

We lost our two cats (20 and 14 years old) and, after a year, got a new one. It's working out okay -- she also now rules the roost.

I've written a few essays (Charles Williams, Bart Spicer, Ed Lacy) and interviewed (Dorothy Uhnak, Dennis Lynds, Stephen Greenleaf, Bob Wade a.k.a. Wade Miller) different crime fiction authors. You can google if you'd like to read about them.

I also write the four P.I. Frank Johnson mysteries. I've published a short story collection on my lady P.I. Sharon Knowles, A CLEAR PATH TO CROSS. Linda Fairstein, Barbara D'Amato, Megan Abbott, and Anne Frasier have generously blurbed my books.

REVIEWS SNIPPETS:

"Ed Lynskey's new novel PELHAM FELL HERE is a delight. With a plot as complex as your grandmother's crocheted doilies, Mr. Lynskey creates a portrait of the rural hill country that rings as true as the clank of a Copenhagen can on a Pabst Blue Ribbon can, as does his handle on guns, love, and betrayal. This is a novel well worth the read and makes me want more."
--James Crumley, Hammett Award winning author of THE LAST GOOD KISS

"A new wave of young writers is experimenting with the old-style thriller...among the most promising is Ed Lynskey...an unpredictable story filled with complex characters."
--Robert Wade (a.k.a. Wade Miller, Whit Masterson), San Diego-Union Tribune

"Lynskey has a sure hand . . . top-of-the-line hard-boiled fare."
--Booklist (Starred review)

"Packed with action . . . brings the hills to West Virginia to life with his fondness for adding local colour . . . readers with a penchant for fast-paced thrillers with grit and colour will be pleased."
--Halifax Chronicle Herald

Om mitt bibliotekMy library consists primarily of mystery and literary fiction. I like to read just about everything in mysteries, including amateur sleuth, noirs, cop procedures, detective, and medical thrillers.

My favorite crime authors include Bill Pronzini, Ed Gorman, Walter Mosley, Megan Abbott, just anything from Hard Case Crime, and the old Gold Medal PBOs (John D. MacDonald, Gil Brewer, and Charles Williams).

I also read some poetry (William Stafford, Bill Heyen, and David Bottoms).

Hi there, and thanks for the friend invite! I look forward to reading some of your books in the future.

Sorry about the loss of your cats....that is tough, I know. Been there, done that. I still mourn those I've lost. We now have two brothers, tabby cats, both huge (19 lbs each) and spoiled rotten. As you say, they "rule the roost" and as long as my husband and I continually acknowledge that fact, well, it's just better that way. LOL

Thanks again for the request....it's nice to meet ya!

~ Julie aka "Porchy"
I'm always looking for a new PI. I still have gift money at Amazon so I will be reading Pelham Fell Here soon.
My favorite author is impossible to say as I keep adding to the list. Right now I'm reading Ian Rankin. But I've read so many of his I may catch up to his pen.
Good grief Ed - how many friends does a man need? :)

A ready readership no doubt, I have to confess I am not familiar with your work but unsurprisingly I am now intrigued.

I'm currently on a wild ride with Joe Lansdale's Hap and Leonard series and waiting for the new Connelly to hit the mat, but I'll put you on my wishlist and let you know what I think.

Guns, Love and Betrayal huh? - Throw in whisky, heartbreak and revenge and you've pretty much got it covered.

... and I was so sad to hear that James Crumley had died :(
Just finished 'The Blue Cheer' and I must say your description of rural life is uncanny. This is my first year of living in 'the rural ghetto' in southeastern ohio. I left the city, near cleveland, and moved to a log home in a town where you have to cross the Ohio river to go to any big box stores. I just wish I could of been a part of this life style sooner.
anyway, do you know that in Oakmont P.A. every May they have a mystery lovers festival? Authors and readers can meet. The mystery lovers bookstore sponsors the event.
I did enjoy the book and after reading I had to play 'parchment farm' by the blue cheer
bob
You have the Big Book of Pulps too! Do you find it's often the case of wondering which will win when you're reading it: your desire to finish the story OR your wrists? I love it though. Got into mystery/crime/thrillers via PG Wodehouse, oddly enough - I was living in Dulwich in the UK, where he went to school and while busy churning my way through everything of his I could get my hands on, he mentioned Raymond Chandler went to the same school for a while. So then I started in on Chandler's stuff and that was that.

A friend and I like to carry on in the style, you know: "she had the look of a dame who'd done too many things, too many times"; "she sashayed in, naked to the waist....from both ends"; and we have even invented a character called Further Peruse, with the tagline, "no matter how far anyone went, she'd go further."

Enough wittering: shall have to look out your stuff and see what is the what.

Cheers!

Alexandra
Ed...

Thanks for the invitation.

I am always looking for new P.I. series to get into and yours seem like a great prospect.

I have a huge collection of crime, noir, etc. and I am just now getting around to posting it here.

Thanks again.

Jeff Georges
Hey Ed, Thanks for the invitation. I checked you out on Amazon.com, and damn if you aren't a real live author! I tried that route in my youth, but kept losing manuscripts etc. I published some stuff in pulp magazines that I actually got paid for...(worst crap I ever wrote,) and I respect anyone who can make a go of it in that business.

But I'm sure it's tough. Maybe when I finish entering all my books on LT (I'm almost finished,) I'll pick up one of your books and give it a read. Maybe I'll actually pay for it and boost your income by a buck.

Take care. Mike
Thanks for linking up. I have Sue Grafton's mysteries on my to-read list as well. I've heard she has a good sense of humour. I soon finish rereading Oracle Night by Auster, but I plan to read more books of the Jack Reacher series this year as well (last year I read 3, my favourite is Killing Floor so far). There are so many good books out there, it's hard to find time to read everything one would like. Good luck and keep up the good work!
"There is no difficulty that enough love will not conquer; no disease that enough love will not heal; no door that enough love will not open; no gulf that enough love will not bridge; no wall that enough love will not throw down; no sin that enough love will not redeem. It makes no difference how deeply seated the trouble, how hopeless the outlook, how muddled the tangle, how great realization of love will dissolve it all. If only you could love enough you would be the happiest and most powerful being in the world."

Hello Ed,
Sorry for my late reply, but I haven't been on here to update since I added the books. Your books sound awesome, I plan to read them! I love mysteries!
I don't check this often, sorry for the delayed response. Matthew Reiley writes some very fast paced high intensity action books. The Scarecrow series is best if read in order, but similar to the Jack Reacher series by Child, it is not requred for you to do so. Later versions will likely only spoil who survives in the earlier ones for you mostly.
Thanks for looking at my collection of books. Sorry it took so long to reply, but I'm new to computers, so....
Ed: A blurb from the great James Crunley? My envy knows no bounds.

Good luck with your endeavors...
Ed, Thanks much for sending the Greenleaf article/interview. I had no idea the Tanner books didn't sell well and I'm surprised given some of the not very good series that go on apparently forever. However I am very glad Greenleaf is still around (I was afraid he had died) and was delighted that one of his favorites is Ross Thomas who also happens to be one of mine.

Jan
Whatever happened to Stephen Greanleaf? I used to love his Tanner books and then he just disappeared.
Ed, Thnks for leaving me a messge. Your books sound fascinating, just my "cup of tea, unpoisoned, of course"! I will look for them!

Sylvia
I don't much like Saving Grace (and miss Wanted; stupid TNT) but like The Closer. It's interesting what they're doing with the whole FBI/LAPD interactions with Brenda Leigh and Fritz...

Susan
PBS made 3 Tony Hillerman movies (Skinwalkers, A Thief of Time and Coyote waits starring Adam Beach) and a direct-to-video of The Dark Wind starring (of all people) Lou Diamond Phillips was made.

It'd be cool if they (TPBs) decided to make a movie or series off Kay Scarpetta, but I doubt it'd happen. Though with the success of Bones ya never know.

Susan
Hi Ed,
Thanks for the reply! I have lots of books left to add to the site, especially noir ones. Are you on Rara Avis?
Best,
Mark
Hi Ed

Good luck with the new book, I'll be sure to check it out!
I see you're a fan of Ken Bruen - have you read any other Irish crime novels?
My own personal favourites are Every Dead Thing by John Connolly and In the Woods by Tana French
Hi,
I never was much of a fan of the early Dean Koontz but I really like his later stuff. I've been getting more into mysteries lately so I'll be sure to check one of yours out.

Take care
Jen
You're more than welcome - hope you enjoy the books - and now, of course, I'm off to find yours....
Best -
Daemon
cool...be a great movie, in fcat i don't know why crews stuff hasn't been adapted. The knockout artist is another classic. Just finished reading death in Breslau a polish novel about a amoral cop in 1930's germany..pretty good...
Thanks for linking up. I'll try and track down your books and have a read. I'm guessing I'll like them as you are influenced by some of my favourite writers :)
I'd like to track down some of your books. I've been enjoying crime again recently (just read Dan Simmons three Joe Kurtz novels and some of the Hard case crime stuff).
I also tried to accept your invitation, but it had expired. I didn't know they expired so fast. Your books look interesting -- I'm always on the lookout for good new hardboiled 'tecs (especially female, but they don't have to be). I used to write for Mystery Scene back when Ed Gorman was editing it, long ago when dinosaurs roamed the earth.
I'd like to read more lady authors//

May I recommend for you Karin Slaughter and Alafair Burke. I just read Angel's Tip by Burke and it was pretty solidly written mystery. I've also enjoyed Anne Frasier as well. Must run and thanks!
I had had accepted, too, but it expired. I've been meaning to try Ken Bruen but few of his books are in ebook. I am going for the Jack Traylor (?) series, book 2, I know but will have to start there for now until I find the first book. I am also a big Dennis Lehane fan. Any mystery authors you enjoy that are character driven? Thanks!
who are your favorite mystery writers? tx.
i tried to accept your invitation but it had expired. sorry.
Good afternoon Ed

Yes I like all the HCC books myself. Good old crime!! My reading comes in spurts. Thast is I have only one book to read or I have 5 sitting on the shelf waiting.

Scanning previous emails, I see you are an author. What books have you written and where shoul I start?

And thanks for the invitation..

Tommie
I'm a Yankees fan...just imagine the trauma!!
Hello Ed

Blue Cheer is on its way from thebookdepository.co.uk. Thanks for the invitation!
Hi Ed

Just wanted to say hello. Thanks for the friends invitation. Curious about your book as I live in West Virginia. Just ordered three books by different authors. Am intrerested in checking yours out once I read those.

Leah
Hello Ed,

Thanks for the friends invitation. I accepted as soon as I saw it (Sorry for the delay, but I've been under the weather.)

So you write mysteries. I love them and will take the time to sample one as soon as I can get a copy.

Hello Ed,
Thanks for the invitation to be your LT friend. I was just visiting your city. I've never been to D.C. before and found the landscape to be very historical. Loved It!
Hi,

it's pretty hard to find your books translated in Finnish, but I'll read your short story Think Pink in a crime magazine Isku.
thank you for your invitation! Look forward to reading your work!
Thanks for the friend invitation. I'll be looking for your books. It's always nice to find works by local authors!
Thanks for the invitation, and gladly accepted. I, too, will have to look for your books now.
I will look for your books.
Bye!
Thanks for the friend invitation. Looks like you are gaining new friends daily. Will be on the lookout for your books now.
Thanks for the friend invite, Ed. I read a lot of mysteries and detective fiction, so I'll try to check out your books.

Thanks for the invitation and good luck with your book - sounds interesting. -Pat
Hi Ed,

Thank you for inviting me. I'm always happy to meet another reading fan! I will definitely have to check out your books. Thanks again! :)
Hi Ed,

Thanks for the invite, also, thanks for writing some great books.
I have to admit that I only recently discovered your work but found that I couldn't stop with just one! Now I have to read the rest of your books. What a bummer, huh?

Take care,

brett
Thanks for the add, Ed. It's good that there are still writers out there working in the classic *Noir* style, and I'm glad to have you as an LT friend. Best wishes in your career!
Thanks for the invite, I'll have to check out your books.
Thanks, For asking me to be your friend. We have no books in common in our libraries, but I see that have Stephen Greenleaf. I read his books several years ago. I enjoyed them. I do like mysteries I will check yours out.

Cindy
Hi! Thanks for the invite to be friends. Your name is somewhat familiar to me, although I know I haven't read your novels (not yet, anyway!) - have you had short stories published in EQMM or AHMM? I subscribe to the former and have for 20+ years, and pick up the latter from time to time, and I'm wondering if I've seen your short fiction there...

thefirstalicat
Hi! Thanks for the invite! I look forward to checking out your books!

Jeanine
Hi Ed
How nice of you to invite me... I always feel honored when someone does that and especially you being a writer! The cool thing about your library is it is filled with books I have not read inculding yours. I can honestly tell you that is hard for me to find "new books". Anyway I look forward to reading your work! as always my warmest possible
aloha!
Cliff
I'm delighted to add you as a Friend! As you probably noticed, I read mostly non-fiction but I also love thrillers, especially medical ones (as you do also), so I will definitely read some of your books.
Hi!
Thanks for inviting me!
Hi Ed, Thanks for the invite to be your friend !
I will start looking for your books now as they look really interesting and just up my street !
See you joined on my birthday !
Hope your weather is nicer than ours just now, just never ending rain in Scotland .
I am off to look for you books now and will get back to you.

Cheers..........Shirley
Hey Ed,

thems some raps on your books! Didn't see any of that other Ed (McBain) in your library. Surely he's up your alley? And what about Lawrence Block - I love the "Hit Man" series. Wanna swap a copy of one of your books for one of mine ("Baby Steps"). Failing that, check out my online comedy crime yarn "The Curly Situation" at www.curlygibson.com

Cheers

JD
Hey, Ed - you should e-mail Abbey about being an LT author. Nice to see you here; I don't keep up over at Good Reads, I'm afraid.
With a blurb like that from Crumley, who wrote one of the best PI novels ever, I guess I'll have to check your books out now!
