Hi--I see that you have a copy of BULLET PROOF by Max Allan Collins. Is your copy signed? Is it a paperback? A hardback of the novel has just recently been published. By the way, you and I share 109 books, although your library is considerably large than mine. Great to "see" another bibliophile. Back to Max Allan Collins--I now have 17 of his works signed. That's one of my recent obsessions--signed books. I taught American and English literature for 20 years and had little time to go to the effort--and little money to go to the expense--of collecting signed books. Cheers!
FYI
I have uploaded a cover for Army of Manifest Destiny: The American Soldier in the Mexican War,1846-1848 by James M. McCaffrey. This is from the NYU Press hardcover edition.
Hi,

Saw you liked Trainspotting, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reading my new novel and posting your comments here (as well as on a few other book-related sites). Thought you might like my novel since it's also about a group of disturbed kids and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like. Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Thanks,

Chris
Your library is amazing!
Hi, your library is really great! You have scads of books about books- one of my favorite genres.

Cheers from one bibliophile to another,
Jessica
I'm writing because I noticed you have a book by Andrew Dornenburg in your library. I wanted to let you know that he'll be on LibraryThing for a few weeks (until December 5th), participating in an Author Chat. So stop on by and ask Andrew a question:

Hello Ginaruiz,
We share 179 books of which a great many are among my most favorite. I am very impressed with your library and would love to add you to my friends. I live near Seattle and know very few people who share a love of the same types of books. Cheers, Janoorani
Hello ginaruiz - we share 45 books in common and after reading your list, it seems we share a love of Mexico and Mexican folk art. I invite you to visit our website at www.ladap.org and consider joining our national non-profit organization named Los Amigos del Arte Popular. Our goal is to promote & educate the public about Mexican folk art and we use our membership dues and trip registration fees to carry out those projects. We last published an Artes de Mexico book in cooperation with them about the glazed pottery made in Tlaquepaque between 1920-1945; two of our members were contributing writers and all photos used are pieces owned by our members. Happy hunting and have fun reading! - Cathey Merrill
Okay, I thought I had a fairly large library (perhaps 2,000-3,000) but since I've joined LibraryThing, I realize I've got a pretty modest collection. Your collection is really interesting and reflects a pretty wide taste in books. I'm impressed.
The first type of ambiguity with shared interests is who you get to share them with. I got Zipf human behaviour and shared this with Noah as he was the only other holder, I get Empson seven types and share with you as I see you share with Noah or I think hey that photo is neat and a shared experience for me too. i only know the first type of ambiguity (I'm not a great reader, i find i think too much about what's coming next)anyhow great dress.
We share only 3 books, but I observe you have a wonderful library. If I read correctly, you own "Let's Get to the Nitty Gritty" by Horace Silver. What did you think.? [I'm in the middle of this book].
Sister! What a wonderful 188 books we share (and more to come, I'm sure).
Cynara
Hi, I noticed that you have "Three Ages of Woman" as one of your books. I loved her book "Some things that stay" so I tried to find some info on this other book and can not find any reviews! I don't even know what it is about. Can you give me some info??? Was it good?
-Wendy
Hi, I notice you have a copy of Adrienne Segur's Snow Queen. I was wondering: is your copy a 2001 reprint or the 1961 version? I ask because I want to buy myself a copy, but I think I would prefer the more recent, 2001, version and yet I can find it absolutely nowhere, not a single used book store sells it. I have begun to suspect it was never published in 2001, but perhaps only intended to be published. It's hard for me to believe there aren't any used copies out there. So I thought I'd ask those on librarything who have one which copy they have. If no one has the 2001 version, it would make the case stronger and I would just order the older copy. Thanks for your help. Sorry to go on so long....Cindy
howdy!

I was poking around with the stats and saw that we share a decent number of books, none of which play into my rpg geekery, so I added you to my interesting libraries list. It seems that we share similar tastes across a decently-sized spectrum. Most of the high ranking people I share books with are either roleplayers or star wars geeks, so I thought it'd be nice to see what someone with similar tastes has outside of those geekospheres.
Hi,
I am new here and I am still trying to get used to the idea that there are others out there who love the same books that I do...we have over 70 in common. I haven't met anyone before that liked so many of the same ones. I am pleased to meet you.
~Terrie
Wow. Do you seriously own 10,552 books? Can I come over to your house? :P I won't steal any... I swear. :P

Anyways, congrats on the collection!
Alright, Gina.

You finally got me. You're #1 on my "raw" list of users who share the most books with me... in fact you've been at the top since the beginning. 416 books in common to be precise, now. I've watched the numbers warily, for the last year or so I've been on here, and told myself continually to leave you a comment on how impressed I am that we share so many wonderful books. But, that seemed kind of like just giving a compliment to myself (see how my adled brain works?). So, I waited around till after you reached 400+ books we share to think of something brilliant to leave on your page.

Well, so after a long delay, here it is: "Wow". That's it. Just wow. How do you manage to buy all the books I have? Do you just check my page and see which ones I've added recently and then run right down to your local Book Shop and buy them and them to your sprawling mansion of a library? lol. I'm just being silly. Still, it IS a flattering idea to my tiny library (1800) in comparison to your gargantuan 10,550. :)

Really, I -am- impressed, and am glad to have you as my top user, and have had. :) Have a wonderful day/evening Gina, and thanks for sharing a glimpse of the lofty towers of your ethereal library with us here on LT.

Much bliss,
~PandorasRequiem~
Gina:

Your review of The Widow of the South has been selected as the best from the Deep South Group. Therefore you are invited to suggest our "Book of the Month" for December 2007. You may post your choice here: http://www.librarything.com/talktopic.ph...
Hi there,

I saw we share 131 books, which from my so far tiny library of 320ish is very impressive to ME. :^) I love to read, but I've only been able to enter lists I've been keeping for the past four years (since I had kids) - to help me remember what I read and when! I don't seem to hae the time to rate and review them like I would like though . . .

Wonderful catalog!
Thanks for becoming a friend.
a nod,

no reason.

pull my finger.
I love the Goya! (It is Goya, isn't it??)

And the library's not bad either...
Hi ginaruiz,

I just joined LibraryThing. We share 24 books and that's a lot for me since I've only listed about 32 so far.
Hey, what's the thing about North Carolina? I only been on this site for 45 minutes and have seen 3 references from NC folks. I live in nearby Virginia.

Hi!

Thanks for the friends status-can't wait to discuss books & much more with you.

Cheers ma dear!

What a great library! So far, I share more books with you than anyone else (though I've just started cataloguing my library, 1000s to go, I'm guessing). What's really funny is that up until this Jan., when I moved to NC, I lived very close to you. Let's just say, I nearly lived in Swork! Sorry I didn't meet you then (or did I?). Happy reading!
Wow, what a lot of books catalogued! :)
I have more books in common with you than anyone else. Either you have a lot of books listed that you plan to read, or you read massively. -- Marc Robinson
Great library you have there, looks pretty familar....

just sayin.... hello.

T
Since I share more books with you than anyone else (227) I thought I should say Hi. Greetings from North Carolina.
Gina,

I am envious of your Chicano/Latino books and have started scanning your reviews to determine which I might like. Any favorites among your five or four star books?
i just started loading my books and discovered that we share 275 and I haven't even loaded 2000 yet. I see we have a lot of the same cookbooks, classics like herodotus and fun stuff like Agatha Christie. I lived in Puerto Rico for two years, and learned enough spanish to read poetry in dual language books but I read the novels in translation, (being lazy about dictionaries.) Are you a librarian? I am a retired systems analyst and ex art teacher in florida for the winter. i'm sorry you live so far away. I am at the end of a long list of people with books in commmon with you. If you would like to chat, I'd be delighted. Myrna Gwin (almigwin
Just curious as to how long it's taken you to accumulate your collection?
10,000 books, holy cow! That's super impressive. I noticed that we shared a lot of books, so I thought I'd say "hi." Hi!
okay, so now it's 68!
(i've updated my library a bit more)
correction: 59 books
Where do you keep all the books?
Wow, we share an amazing amount of books! But with that amount of books logged it's perhaps not surprising. Do you really own 10,000 books?

Kind regards, Mae
Thank you!

Meanwhile, 10,000 books! I've got some catching up to do.
Wow. You have an impressive collection! We share 47 books.
'The Road' began stunningly and ended that way. When I walked outside of my house after finishing it I found the sky, and the horizons touching the German fields, to be tainted with a haunting portent imbued to me by 'The Road' (you will know what I mean after you read it).
I am currently reading McCarthy's new book, 'The Road.' It is a dark, haunting vision, and the eloquence we enjoy in McCarthy's pre-'No Country for Old Men' writing is here in the new work.
I'm really just starting my library, and we already have 45 books in common. Once I get my books from my parents' house, I wonder how many more!
I moved my inventory over to Alibris.com, and I will also be uploading it to ABE and Amazon and B&N in the future.

http://www.alibris.com/bookstore/xenithb...

Having fun pulling books out for my own library too :^)

Paul
I am in the process of building a bookstore website to sell these 32,000 books. But the best part is going thru the boxes and cherry picking the ones I want to keep for myself :^)

I've begun listing some at half.com ( http://shops.half.ebay.com/xenithbooksel... ) but their site is really pretty awful.

My apartment is gone, turned into nothing but boxes and boxes of books. It really is heaven...
I know. Each writer can be daunting. I was at a conference given by Prof. Angel Rosa Vélez of the Dept. of Hispanic Studies @ the Univ. of Puero Rico. And he presented
and discussed Borges and Cortazar in his book, La mosca en la botella. His "theory"
is that both Borges and Cortazar in their narratives "deny the affirmation of occidental culture while at the same time presenting an incepient philosophy in
our own narrative." There is more in the book but you get an idea of how dense
there fiction is. Siempre,
Martin
Hola. Like your library. Noticed you read Borges, Have you read
him in Spanish?
Also, have you read Márquez and Cortázar, South American
precursors of realismo mágico? Best,
Martin
Correction: When I arrived at the store to load the books, he sold me an additional 7000 or so books, so I am around 32,000 books. Need more storage space! :^)
Hi.
I found you because we share a lot of metaphysics/new age books in common. Also a book on fiction writing. Is writing a hobby of yours? I just joined the site, so I don't have too much posted right now. Thank you sharing your lists!
Wow! We have 225 books in common!
Enjoyed browsing your library. I just started entering my books, and at 450, you have 55 of the same. I am totally hooked on this site now. But I just bought 25,000 used books from the inventory of a store closing. It could take years to enter them! :^)

RetroPaul
We share quite a few common titles. I'm amazed that you've got over 8000 listed in your library!

-Rus
Gina, Your library is amazing. I hope to have one comparable in size one day. I have more books in common with you than anyone else on LibraryThing. I'm looking through your library now, and I'm impressed! I'm impressed!
Yeah, I too am adding you cause you popped up as the person with the most books in common with me as of today. We have 44 books in common - and a lot of them are my favorite books.
we have 300 selections in common! i thought that was amazing! happy reading! :)
You used to have every book, but I have added a bunch more, and now you only have 47 of my 110, though you are still on the top of my list. kudos
-basblu
wow! you have every one of my books! How do you do it?
a nod because you're on the top of my "users with my books" list.

and a chuckle, bcause i'll lose my job if i spend my days going through your list.

so there.
Hello Gina,

I'm Graham; we share 14 works, including lots of Philippa Gregory and Virginia Woolf's. Madame Bovary, The Lovely Bones, Ilse Witch & Tess as well! Very divergent!

Best Wishes, Graham
Hi Gina:

Just signed up and you come up number one on the most books we share, an astounding 359! Wow!

Denton
Hello out there. I just noticed you also have John Horne Burns' The Gallery. I also have a copy, an older one published in 1947, which I think is the first printing. I also see Lisa Haynes' book of poems; I wrote a review of that one.
Hi Gina, so nice to see another person who as Calvino and Carter, among so many others! I was excited to see how many of the authors that I love (that few other people seem to have) that appear in your catalog!

Robin (caerulius)
Hi Gina, my name is Joe. I am a Chef in N.Y.C. My question is how many cook books do you need for reference or recipies? I would only recomened about a dozen for any gourmet cook, who loves to cook different style foods. A working chef can use as many as he/she can afford, and dont forget the local library. I also collect many books on my ethnic background. I just cant seem to get enough material on this subject. Well enough of me, let me know whats-up with 6000+ books in your massive library :). Joe
Cool; I will send it from my email listed here in Library Thing: exile3@hotmail.com (I didn't want it to perhaps be deleted in your Junk mail folder).
Thanks, Gina; I'd be glad to send it as Word attachment if you like, or in the body of an email. Shall I send it to the email address you list above? Jeffrey
I see we share interest in a two divergent books of poetry. I recently published a review of 'Here, Bullet.' Glad to see another reader of this work. You really have 6,220 books cataloged? I give you lots of credit. Jeffrey λ
We have a lot of books in common!
:)
Do you speak Spanish?
I checked out your stuff as it vvcame up that we have alot of overlap. We overlap on alot of 'random' titles so now i will watch you
be warned:)

Just wanted to say hi. I checked out your list and it seems we share a lot of the same books. I've jotted down a lot of great book recomedations from your list and I'm gonna go check them out. Thanks! Hope you have a great weekend!
Hi Gina -- I noticed that you have a lot of Hispanic titles listed in your catalog, and I thought you might be interested in a book I read recently and fell in love with -- it's called BURNING THE SEA by Sarah Pemberton Strong, and it's only available used on Amazon (I've never seen it in a bookstore). It's set in the Dominican Republic, and it's one of the most beautifully written books I've ever read. I highly recommend it!

Have a nice weekend!
hello -

when i clicked on recent additions to users who share the same book titles as
my library yours was on top of the list. you have many of my facorite books
and authors who i though were somewhat obscure. nice to see that they're not
so obscure. nice to see people buying and well as reading.
