Om migThe books shown in my LT library are books I've read, not books I own or books I want to read. To read are books I want to read, regardless of whether I own them.

I rate books as follows:

5 stars=great, one of the best of the year for me
4 stars=very good
3 stars=good
2 stars=ok, not bad
1 star =not very good
0 stars=why did I bother?

When I rate/review a book, I also figure my expectations about that book into equation and also think about other books I've read by that author or about that subject.

Om mitt bibliotekI read all sorts of books but my favorites are mysteries of all kinds, especially those featuring amateur sleuths. I also love reading books about baseball, in particular about my beloved Chicago Cubs.

For 2010, my main challenge is the 1010 challenge. My thread there is at: http://www.librarything.com/topic/70676

My 10 categories for 2010 include:

1. Cozy Mysteries
2. Health/Medicine
3. Baseball Books
4. Books About Chicago
5. American Presidents
6. Books About Disasters
7. General Nonfiction
8. Books by Anne Perry
9. Days and Nights
10. Not My Usual

Just got a message from Sonya. She only THOUGHT she ordered my books! She's ordered them now and they should get here in 5-9 days. Thanks for asking for me. Enjoy your family tonight and tomorrow. Merry Christmas. Sandy
Thanks for checking on my books - that really is pretty strange. No books yet, but we've gotten everything we ordered last Wednesday night, except one that we knew would be late.

It's been raining here all day today, but warm - around 50. I haven't seen the weather, but have heard that we've got some in the forecast. Our sons will be driving home tomorrow from the south, so we're hoping they won't have problems. Do you have far to go? I know that if you get ice, then any trip will be treacherous, but will snow cause you any trouble? I'm happy to be staying home and letting everyone come to me!

American Lion is OK - I've got it on audio in the car, and I've been a little distracted with it, plus the reader is pretty monotone and it's easy to just tune him out. I'm at the end of disk 12 of 14, so almost done. It talks about him and the issues he faced during his presidency - but not very much from before then. Just some background info on his wife and the scandal about their marriage, and his military career including the Battle of New Orleans. Almost nothing about the election of 1824, when JQA won, and then the problems his supporters caused for 4 years. Only that they began campaigning immediately after JQA'a innaugaration. Lots of discussion about how he was the first to take more power for the presidential office - his heavy use of the veto - and his insistence that he alone was the representative of ALL the people. Definitely worth reading.
Merry Christmas, Linda!

I'm working down my to-do list, and getting close. So now I'm getting excited, because I do love Christmas. The only sad thing is my daughter in China, but I think I'm lucky to have everyone else here.

If you don't mind, knowing that they aren't late yet will put my mind at ease. Another quick dash to the door a few minutes ago left me watching the FedEx truck pulling away and another Christmas present on the porch. Glad it's here, but no books for me :-(

I admire your restraint at being able to sample all the goodies and enjoying the feast without going overboard. Hopefully your family is being diligent in making sure there are lots of things that you can have without worrying.
Merry Christmas to you, too, Linda! Yes,it's fairly short, and one of those books that you have to finish once you start. Have a great holiday, and I'll talk to you next week!
Reminder: The Missouri Readers will start discussing The Death of Sweet Mister by Daniel Woodrell next Monday (12/28)! Come visit with your questions and comments!

Merry Christmas!
Yes, it is Jackson's first Christmas!
I just wish I didn't have to wait another week+!
I'm assuming that my books aren't coming from Amazon, and that is the reason for the delay. I hope that is the reason, anyway.

I'm doing Moby Dick and Herodotus in January and Three Musketeers in February. I hope Moby Dick will be finished before Musketeers begins. There's been some talk about GWTW in June, I think, that I might do, too. Of course, Herodotus only begins in January - it will go through September, I think. So far, these are the only ones that are really "calling" to me. Did you do any of the big group reads last year? None of them were really appealing to me, so I didn't do a single one of them - only the Missouri group reads.
I went racing to the door this afternoon when I saw the UPS truck stop out front and heard the doorbell ring. I just knew it was the SantaThing package! Wrong. A shipment from Amazon that we ordered about midnight Wednesday night. How'd they get it here so fast? Happy the Christmas present made it here in time, but getting increasingly anxious about the safety of my books!
No Santa Thing package yet! Arrg!
Linda- I received your Secret Santa books today and wanted to thank you! Was I supposed to know who is was from? I saw your name on the receipt and remembered you. This was my first year of participating and it turned out very nice! Believe it or not, I was in a local bookstore a few weeks ago and had "Starvation Lake" in hand and then set it down for something else. I remember reading a couple strong reviews about it. And of course I finished "Jar City", a short time ago and loved it. I'm ready for more of Indridason's work. I'll stop by your Challenge and you can drop by mine, (I haven't set up my 2010 yet!) Have a wonderful Christmas and I'll be seeing you around!

I'm glad you like the books! I spent a wonderful week in Florence 3 years ago. I went with my sister-in-law, who lived there for several years and speaks fluent Italian. One of her Florentine friends, a gentleman in his 70s, talked a bit about his memories of the flood. Even after all this time, it's still in the mind of the residents. I thought it interesting that the flood was one of the things he wanted me to know about his city. I hope the book is as good as it sounds!

By the way, since you're a sports fan, you might be interested to know that I was in Florence when Italy won the World Cup in soccer. I didn't get much sleep that night, but I enjoyed listening to the celebrations on the street while I tried to sleep!
Linda, very sorry to hear about the death of your friend's father. And how hard for her and her family to lose an uncle the very next day. It was a strange sensation the first time one of my circle of life-long friends lost a parent. Going to funerals isn't something I'm looking forward to doing more of.

I knew you would love your books - your santa chose early, and I peeked at them. I'm still anxiously waiting for mine, but nothing yet. I saw a comment earlier where Sonya said that they are still ordering, so if I'm at the end of the list, it may still be several more days. I hope not. Maybe tomorrow!
Linda....only YOU would be up at this hour of the morning.....I just finally got my act together, and I'm on a roll.....looking forward to another great year. Good grief--I just looked at your recent additions and my TBR pile went up by 3 more. I love Carolyn Hart, and just saw a review of the Abigail Adams book yesterday, and that Dark Water book looks interesting too. Off to dreamland
