I really want to read "The Year of Compulsory Childbirth", but I'm having an extremely hard time finding a print copy of it. Where did you get/buy yours?

Hi Litterate again..so long for me to reply huh? Sorry. Actually I realize why I had the eye/concentration problems. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea which I am thinking was causing these problems (lack of oxygen at night and lack of sleep). I will be getting a c-pap machine on wednesday (hallalujah). I can finally start reading again. Thank you for the suggestion to use audiobooks. I actually used them a lot before my problem, but even had to discontinue that too because I was finding myself drifting (lack of concentration) even on the simple books that I listened too. I am hoping the cpap will solve my problems and I will start getting on this site more and more like I did before my problems started. Look forward to hearing from you and I will respond quicker next time.

I recently read Dean Koontz's Your Heart Belongs to Me. It's a pretty good mystery -- not a waste of time. There were a couple glitches for me: some dialogue in the beginning that didn't flow smoothly, and it could have been tied up a little neater, but overall an interesting mystery... My daughter just returned from London and loved your city! She'd like to live there a while after grad school :)

Hello Litterate,

Sorry it took so long to accept your friend invitation. I have been having concentration/eye problems of late and that has kept me from reading. Until I figure out what is going on I have stopped coming to this site for a little while and stopped reading. It is very discouraging. Hopefully my doctor will be able to figure out the problem next month. I think it is vertigo.

Thanks for the recommendation - I've never actually tried an ebook, but that might be a good way to get my feet wet.

thanks for the suggestions - they sound great! I'm putting together a list, and when I finally meet the people in the group, hopefully I'll be able to better tell which books will suit.

Sure they do! My husband was once flying to the Galapagos and I special ordered him "Spaghettio's". He retaliated by having his picture taken next to the very attractive flight attendents. :)

Spy/mystery novels? Well, I recently finished "A Study in Scarlet", and something by Agatha Christie. I like John Grisham, too. Really, I will read just about anything. Right now I am reading the "Twilight" books, since it seems most of my female students are enamored with them.

This is your new friend deweys. You invited me to be your friend last month. I am located in Memphis, Tennessee.

I just finished "The Sign of the Four" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I listened to it each day while out on my walk. Really enjoyed it. It was my second Sherlock Holmes. Previously read "A Study in Scarlet. My next one to listen to is "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes".

I also have a Kindle (ereader) and just finished "The Bloodshot Eye" by Richard S. Prather. A good spy novel i finished recently was: "The Venetian Betrayal" by Steve Berry.

What are you reading over there in Olde London Towne? By the way, I have been to London twice and just love it and Europe. My daughter studied at Oxford for 1 semester.

Hey, I just got put in charge of my office’s book club. I think we’re supposed to reading light fiction or motivational/professional nonfiction. As I mostly read genre fiction (of various genres), could you recommend a couple more mainstream-y books for a book club? I'm soliciting my librarything friend for help. BTW, do you know of any librarything features for book clubs?

Haven't intentionally snubbed you, I just don't get onto this site very often (working with books all day long). Since I have the newest available to me each day, I read a lot of new releases, though occasionally I'll pick up a classic. Would like to read more by authors I enjoy but am trying to get a feel for all the main writers so I can make better recommendations. Kind of sampling the buffet (keeping with the food analogies). Feel free to leave comments, but my responses may not be too swift.

I admit my ignorance re "Halal"; I assume there is a similarity to Kosher laws? THOSE I know about, or at least as much as a gentile can. Hey! I've got my very own copy of "The Code of Jewish Law". Don't ask why.

Not being bound by those laws, I will say that I very much enjoyed my side of bacon this morning. My southern upbringing is very heavy on pork. And grease. And salt. And tea with LOTS of sugar. And we wonder why we are fat....

What does one eat in southern England?

Enjoyed your review of Brave New World. I shall attempt my own review of it soon. Are you familiar with Aldous' brother, Julian Huxley? I have read a couple of his essays. Myself, I'm not an adherent to Darwinian evolution, though I believe Julian and his colleagues had an enormous effect on sociocultural evolution. Aldous told us what it all meant for the future...

Right now I'm reading John Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath". Witnessing the dying of the American dollar interested me in the last American depression of the early twentieth century. I'm quite surpised what a good read it is.

Interesting times here... How's things there?

Just wanted to say hello and thanks for the friends invite. I lived in Ipswich and Capel St. Mary years ago. (Seems like a lifetime.) Now living in West Virginia. I also enjoy Coben. Recently I discovered Diane Mott Davidson and am enjoying the mysteries as well as the recipes.

Thanks for the friends invitation. When I read that you live in London, I thought of one of my favorite writers - Patrick Hamilton. Have you read his books? I'm reading Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky now. I liked Slaves of Solitude better.

I meant to say too that I admire your plan to write reviews for the books that you enter. I've put so many books into Library Thing that I really don't remember at all. (I'm rather old!) I'm starting to be inspired to write at least a few comments on the new books that I enter. A good discipline.

Yes, I do love Harlan Coben's Myron Bolitar books especially.

I'm not a huge fan of Harlan's my rating are about 3, and the reviews not that glowing. I found him readable ina quick pass the time way but nothing special. Most LT libraries overlap to some degree, particularly with authors who write prolific series.
