Relieve my curiosity: was the photograph of you on the back jacket of Paper Towns taken in front of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam? If not, what is the building? I'm feeling slightly like Quentin trying to track down an elusive friend...
You say that you collect books about conjoined twins, but are there not such twins in Katherine Dunn's *Geek Love*? I do not see that title on our "shared books" list. Are there conjoined twins in Montaigne's Essays? (I think it's possible).
Am enjoying Paper Towns. For a YA book it's taking me a long time to read. Interesting.

Hello John.
I have to say you are a spectacular author and you inspire me so much. Your books are all very intellectual and down to earth, they're simply extraordinary. As you have probably already assumed from my username I happen to love 'Looking for Alaska' it is one of my favourite books ever, I have read it over and over so many times I feel sorry for my now rather tatty book. I am hoping, as it appears papertowns is being published over here (England)in 213 days - according to the waterstones website - that perhaps, if this is so - and I hope it is - that you might consider doing a book tour over here sometime.
I don't know if you return comments, or even go on librarything.com anymore, but it would be great to hear from you.

I made a booklist this summer and your three novels were on the top of the list. I have just completed "Paper Towns" which was quite wonderful as were your other two novels. Your books have given me much to think about and I quite enjoy how they can intwine within to each other, with the ideas which are presented in them.

Thanks for putting LibraryThing into your videos... (that was how I heard of it) It's an awesome website, so I'm glad I heard about it...
Your books are awesome! They're the type of books that my friends and I can talk about for hours, and we like to have books like that to read... also, that Christmas-y book you did with Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle was really good, I read that quickly because I couldn't put it down.

I didn't know if you were aware that Abundance of Katherines is nominated on the high school level for the Young Reader's Choice Awards (Pacific Northwest Library Association). Loved the book, can't wait to read Paper Towns.

Hi John,

I recently finished the novel, The Girls, and noticed the challenge regarding conjoined twins on your profile. Although there were many characters in another excellent book I read, in Geek Love by Katherine Dunn conjoined twins were among the main characters. Perhaps you'd like to read that book and see if it fits in with your collection. :)

Oh, quick question!
When I bought Paper Towns, I sat on the floor in Target for at least ten minutes deciding whether to buy the yellow cover or the blue-tinted cover. I ended up going with the blue-tint (ever the gloom monger I am) but I was wondering what the purpose of the two contrasting covers was?

Hello, I just wanted to say that YOU ARE A GOD!!!(*sigh* and I said I wasn't going to embarrass myself)!!! No, really, I've vastly enjoyed everything I have read by you.

I adored An Abundance of Katherines. It is probably one of the most funniest most intelligent book I've ever read. I read it a few month ago, and "Sitsplinkering" (sorry, I have no idea how its really pronounced or spelled) has been a part of my everyday vocabulary since. I'm currently reading Looking for Alaska and I'm literally cracking up in the train, and at work, at home. I'm a mess.

I cannot rave enough about your books to everyone who will put up with it. Sorry, I'm probably just putting people off your books.

I can't wait to read Paper Towns!

I am a bookseller, and whenever I get a chance, I push all of your terrific titles. The customer response is always uniformly ecstatic. "Paper Towns" is getting great feedback, and we've already had to order more of the title to stock. I know at least two local teachers who have one of your books on their curriculum. Thank you so much for helping to convince more adults to read YA lit.

John - Just read "Looking for Alaska". Like everyone else who's read it... loved it. Fabulous. I'm telling everyone I know to read it. My friends (fellow Alaskans like myself) keep confusing it with Peter Jenkins' book about the PLACE Alaska (as opposed to the person). Go figure. Got "An Abundance of Katherines" on the TBR pile to read shortly.

Wow! I loved Looking for Alaska. I wish this book had been out when I was a teen struggling with the death of a friend. I will make all my young charges read it!

Hi from New Zealand! Just wanted to let you know that your wonderful novels have made it downunder, and that we love your writing. I'm running a session called 'Fabulous fiction for terrific teens' at a library conference in November, and will be sharing your books with the attendees. Unfortunately Paper
towns' October release date means that I wouldn't be able to get it to NZ in time for the conference, which is very disappointing - I so want to read it. Think I'll have to treat myself for Christmas!

Any chance you might make it to NZ? Or was that just a bit stalkery....

Hi, John!
I picked up a copy of Looking for Alaska at the bookshop last night, and can't wait to race through my current read, so that I can start yours! However, this is not my reason for commenting. My little brother, who is a video-game-obsessed twelve-year-old, has told me on multiple occasions that he hates to read. For a bookworm like me, it's hard to hear such a thing. But, after getting him into the Vlogbrothers videos (his favorite is the chin wax - painful!), I produced Looking for Alaska and flaunted the fact that "cool guys" such as yourself can also be readers.
Thanks, to both your and your brother. My own nerdfighter sibling has forsaken the Nintendo in exchange for your book!

PS - I've promised him a copy of Paper Towns, but since I've had little luck in getting an ARC from the Ning, when is the official release date? I'll have to satiate him with something like Captain Underpants until then. Ugh...

When I read a really good piece of fiction, I often wonder about what books the author has read, and which ones he or she has really enjoyed. A pleasure to be able to find some answers in your Library. I am a very fussy reader, but you are an excellent writer and an interesting reader as well.

So glad to see you on LT. As a librarian for a high school, I'm always looking of the next great book to pass on. As I was reading Katherines, I thought, "I think I know this kid!" When I finished reading this great book, I handed it to the kid I had in mind and told him I thought he was starring in this book (minus the Jew-fro). Thanks for a great book!

Did you know Looking for Alaska is nominated for the Illinois Abraham Lincoln High School Book Award this year? If you win, I hope you will consider coming to the Illinois School Library Association's Conference, fall of 2009!

Looking for Alaska was by far the best audio I listened to last year. I was completely unprepared to like a young adult audio that much. I have An Abundance of Katherines on my to-read list now. Thanks for what you do!

hey john!
Just working on my list of books to read this year and I thought i'd check out your library for inspiration. (guess what? got plenty.) lol. I got very excited about some of the titles i saw on the list.
Also, i thought i should mention that although i often add "in my pants" to book titles, my brain absolutely could not stop itself from giving my hand the instruction to write down "everything that rises must also converge in my pants" as one fluid title. curses!

I just finished your book _Looking For Alaska_. It had me laughing out loud and crying real tears. I loved it!

I'm now sending my copy of _Looking for Alaska_ on a world-wide journey to BookCrossing members in Germany, United Kingdom, Finland, and South Africa. I hope they will enjoy it as much as I did.

For sure, I'll be picking up a copy of An Abundance of Katherines. I'm glad I discovered how well you write!

i just read a book called "passages" by connie willis. she uses a lot of famous last words as quotes at the beginnings of her chapters. thought it may be of interest since i'm assuming that it's not just your character in "looking for alaska" who is fond of these quotations.

Hi John,

It's lovely to know that a book I am currently reading is by an LT author - you!

I received Looking For Alaska from an LT member as a Secret Santa gift this week. I'm really not that much into reading young adult novels, but I throughly enjoyed The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak this past year. After I read Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld and mentioned I liked reading life at about prep schools, someone on another list suggested that I read Looking for Alaska. I then promptly added it to my wish list. My Secret Santa found my wish, sent me the book - which I started reading right away, and just now found you here.

I'm really enjoying the book so far. I'm not sure what I'll do with it when I'm done, but I will definitely not keep it. I want to share it with other readers so they get a taste of your writing. Perhaps I'll start it on a Bookcrossing journey around the world as it's been quite a fun read so far.

I now see that YA books are not for only kids! Keep up the good work. I'll be looking for more of your books.

I enjoyed the many layers you wove together, and I won't soon forget your characters. When a book strikes a chord with me, it goes on the top shelf of my big bookcase. glad you're here. am a big fan of your books (and yes, including the mental_floss volumes) and it's nice to know we share about 30 books here in LT. (this is a bit embarrassing, but at some point early this year, pudge and colin hogged the number-one spot in my list of literary crushes. hahaha...)

by the way, i'm giving away copies of Alaska and Katherines to both young adults and adults this christmas. :)
