Wowzers, your profile is very interesting. Like cameling's comment below mine, I was startled by your little summary on your librarything profile & on your myspace. As cameling, I'm sadly sheltered, but I also didn't know one could engage in so many different courses of life - whether or not each course ran a horrid or joyful path you still seem to have been able to get around. I guess thats something I can admire without even going too deeply into understanding your past.
We don't seem to have much in common - literature wise or in any other aspect.
So.....chyeah.
I accepted your friend's request anyhow.

Thank you for the invite. I loved your 'about me' ...it was interesting and also made me a little nervous. But then I've lived a relatively sheltered life and have not been exposed to gangs much less a gang leader or in your case, perhaps an ex-gang leader.

I bet you have alot of great stories based on your life experiences.

I'm curious though, to know how you got to me and what is it about my profile or reading habits that have led you send the invitation. And if it's just a blanket invite to alot of random people, then please be honest about that.. i won't hold it against you. many an interesting and good friend has been made by random chance.

HI Alex, and thank you for the friend invitation. As a result, I spent the morning fearlessly exploring beyond your picture of 'Chewbaca on a rampage', and beyond your homepage at http://www.suburbanfiction.com, and beyond your Anarchy Bell poetry, to your articles on http://www.blogcritics.org, and so I discovered the real Alex - very intelligent, an idealist hopeful for humanity, and someone with whom I have a lot in common.

That was all after I took a good long look at the books in your library - (not just your tags). Somehow, (probably related to my being diagnosed with ADD/ADHD), in the process I stumbled across Stillness Speaks by Eckhart Tolle - for which I thank you in advance (I have yet to acquire the book).

So yes, I'll be your friend, because I sometimes regret turning down an invitation to run away with a circus from a friend/circus clown; I write a little poetry, I've been a political activist, and I'm working on writing a novel. I'm also 62 years old, straight and married forty years, and can't watch horror movies because they give me nightmares. I was a sleepwalker as a kid, and can definitely say I was disturbed.

From what I've seen of you, my new friend, you are way much smarter and braver than me, but friends don't have to be the same do they? I'm going to go back to revise my profile, and be a little bit braver.

I'm going to have to agree with all of the people that have declined your offers of "friendship". We have nothing in common. What I never understood was why some people feel need to spam everyone on a social networking site for friendship just so they could have some list of strangers as friends. Your Myspace page shows that you spammed everyone on Myspace to add them.

Hey Alex, I see the two books we have in common are both SF - small wonder you invited me to be your friend. By the way, I wonder if you noticed you have two books in your collection by someone with the same name as you - what a coincidence, eh?! I don't have ANY books in my collection by someone with the same name as me! Maybe you should start a new LT group called "I have books in my collection written by people with the same name as me" - I bet there'd be LOADS of people who'd want to join. After all, if you join a group like that, others would know straight-away that you weren't the ACTUAL author just trying to flog more copies of your own work in a cheap spammy way, but were instead an articulate cosmopolitan reader with a funny coincidentally-named title in your library.

Anyway, keep up the good work, whatever you do!

Hello and thank you. One of the books we share is "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living" by Dale Carnegie. It was bought for my by my oldest son, Geoffrey, when he was 12. As I was going through your catalog I noticed "Founding Brothers". I found it on my shelf but it was not listed in my catalog. I am always turning up books that I did not list. I tried to be thorough and organized. Man makes plans and God laughs. Drop me a note sometime.
