First time Iʻve seen a thread with the stat: "0 messages"!
(In the menu, it does have an "author" of the post. But no author of the non-post here.)

What happened?

I clicked on this thread through curiosity. Iʻm a classicist, but not much of a diner

Maybe we could have one of those Roman dinners and lounge around on couches eating grapes.

Well, I guess the body of the original message didn't post.

I had this link to a news article:

http://www.buffalonews.com/city-region/university-at-buffalo/ub-students-sunday-...

about a Roman dinner served by the University of Buffalo's Classics department. It not only sounded delicious but fun...

I wonder if they, or at least some of them, ate reclining? Probably wouldn't do for the general student population but maybe the class gave a demonstration?

I saw they mentioned a dish by Cato - gotta be careful. Supposedly he was such a purist that he dispensed with the subligaculum.

Interesting - thanks for posting it.

We used to do this every year (just for the Latin Club) at one of the high schools I attended. We didn't try for that much authenticity in the meal, but we all wore togas. We tried eating while reclining on the grass (it was always a cookout), without much success. Reclining is easy, eating barbecue while reclining is difficult.
