Ämne:  Good evening, I'm new. 0 / 43 lästa

I'm new, and I'd like to encounter some of the regulars on this site. I've really enjoyed nerdily listing my books, although it's a marathon task. Reading has been my love and my friend through all the years of my life - hope I don't have to wait for months and undergo initian ceremonies involving chickens in order to join in!

sep 16, 2009, 4:19pm (upp)Meddelande 2: MerryMary

Chickens? Good heavens, no. (I'll plead the Fifth on Smurfs and Pirates). (And my personal favorite: blue-footed boobys.)

One good way to find your feet is to lurk around some of the groups that sound interesting to you. From each Group Page, you can see what kinds of things they talk about, and how active they are.

Another way is to browse people's libraries, and when you find an interesting one, see what groups that person belongs to - and check them out.

When you've joined a few groups, and added a few to your watch list, you can set the Talk page to "Your Groups" and the list of message threads won't be so overwhelming.

Welcome aboard the most addicting site on the Web!

Thank you!

sep 16, 2009, 4:24pm (upp)Meddelande 4: amy173

How do you join a group?

sep 16, 2009, 4:27pm (upp)Meddelande 5: MerryMary

On the Group's main page, look in the upper right corner. The yellow plus that says "Join this Group." Pretty simple. ;-)

sep 16, 2009, 4:30pm (upp)Meddelande 6: amy173

Ah. Much obliged ;

sep 16, 2009, 4:32pm (upp)Meddelande 7: christiguc

Yes, welcome, amy173!

sep 16, 2009, 4:40pm (upp)Meddelande 8: amy173

thank you!

sep 16, 2009, 6:41pm (upp)Meddelande 9: amy173

how do I track the activities of a person I am 'privately watching?'

sep 16, 2009, 6:50pm (upp)Meddelande 10: MerryMary

I'm not sure. But someone will answer.

I just checked out your profile pic. Gives "privately watching" a whole new image!

sep 16, 2009, 6:51pm (upp)Meddelande 11: amy173

I know! I'm usually so gifted in survaillance. So what's the point in 'friending' or privately watching, then?

sep 16, 2009, 6:56pm (upp)Meddelande 12: MerryMary

I think "private watching" means the person doesn't know you're watching them. What the watching and friending does is result in any new books, reviews, etc. showing up on your home page under Connection News. You can keep track of what they are up to, and read their reviews, etc.

Have I forgotten anything, oh denizens of the Thing?

sep 16, 2009, 7:23pm (upp)Meddelande 13: christiguc

You pretty much have it, MerryMary! :) "Friending" is reciprocal and requires the other person to accept. Adding as an "Interesting Library" means the other person is notified. "Private Watch List" is a list where people won't know you've added them. They all do the same things--the things MerryMary lists in #12. They will show up in connection news and on the work pages.

Hi Carrol. You won't be flagged if you get rid of the spam link.

okt 27, 2009, 7:08am (upp)Meddelande 18: jillmwo

Hi, amy173! MerryMary was doing the honors all by herself but there are other friendly people who pop up as well! Just plunge in and chat in the various groups and you will find lots of folks who share your interests.

okt 27, 2009, 7:36am (upp)Meddelande 19: MrAndrew

Hello amy. I'm here to steal your soul.

...just kidding! welcome!

>#17: Mary, your open mind is heartwarming. However i hate to say that Carrol is almost certainly not Carrol Spncr (with or without surname vowels), and that spam link to finance or whatever it is, is almost certainly not accidental.

okt 27, 2009, 7:50am (upp)Meddelande 20: MerryMary

You'd think at my age I'd be a little more savvy.

okt 27, 2009, 8:01am (upp)Meddelande 21: MrAndrew

There are worse things than giving the benefit of the doubt.

...now, i have a bridge i'd like to sell you...

okt 27, 2009, 4:40pm (upp)Meddelande 22: jillmwo

Don't do it, MerryMary. I bought that bridge once and it *can't* be moved to the swamp land that I own in Florida!

okt 27, 2009, 9:56pm (upp)Meddelande 23: MerryMary

I've got a bridge over the Dismal* I've been trying to unload...

*A very nice river about 2 blocks from my house. I like to call my town Dunning-on-the-Dismal.

Whenever I see this thread I have to say the name ...with a Count Dracula accent.

okt 28, 2009, 5:16pm (upp)Meddelande 25: MrAndrew

Good evenink. I am new, and i am here to zuck your bloooood. Ahahahaha!

Actually, i get more of a muppet Count effect.
One! One new member! Ahahahaha!

okt 28, 2009, 5:24pm (upp)Meddelande 26: MerryMary

Dahlink! You are most velcome.

*shuddery pipe organ chord crash*

okt 29, 2009, 12:26am (upp)Meddelande 27: WholeHouseLibrary

Hey! I can fix that pipe organ for you if you want me to. I worked for a pipe organ builder once.
How fast was it going when the crash occurred?

okt 29, 2009, 12:29am (upp)Meddelande 28: MerryMary

No survivors witnesses.

okt 29, 2009, 12:32am (upp)Meddelande 29: MrAndrew

Vivacissimo.

Very dangerous pace for a pipe organ. I suspect that the player had imbibed a few sherries.

okt 29, 2009, 12:46am (upp)Meddelande 30: WholeHouseLibrary

I heard all the stops were pulled out.
That was a very gestalt thing to do.

okt 29, 2009, 1:00am (upp)Meddelande 31: MerryMary

It was an occasion of note. The keys are missing, and the press is trying to soft-pedal the whole thing.

okt 29, 2009, 1:29am (upp)Meddelande 32: WholeHouseLibrary

I got wind of that too!

okt 30, 2009, 5:59pm (upp)Meddelande 33: jillmwo

You know, there are snake-oil remedies for people who suffer from wind, WHL! You might want to look into that.

okt 30, 2009, 6:32pm (upp)Meddelande 34: WholeHouseLibrary

Yeah, well... Just be thankful you weren't downwind of me...

nov 6, 2009, 7:29am (upp)Meddelande 35: TheoClarke

Well, this thread has given amy173 a remarkably accurate picture of LT talk. If you stick around, Amy, you know that you have already made it through the first initiation test.

nov 7, 2009, 6:50am (upp)Meddelande 36: amy173

Oh, you guys!

The name is because I come from a factory making Amys. Limited edition. Only 174 were made.

nov 7, 2009, 7:18am (upp)Meddelande 37: MrAndrew

now i'm curious about what amy174 did, so that they stopped the production line.

Or... was there an amy0? Are you the 174th?

and what did you do?

nov 7, 2009, 9:23am (upp)Meddelande 38: jillmwo

Even a more fundamental question --> what's an amy and what goes into producing same?

nov 7, 2009, 9:30am (upp)Meddelande 39: pollysmith

I think they are massing for an attack!

nov 7, 2009, 10:57am (upp)Meddelande 40: TheoClarke

#38 "Sugar and spice and all things nice" according to my research.

nov 7, 2009, 2:18pm (upp)Meddelande 41: amy173

the recipe is top secret, I'm afraid.

nov 7, 2009, 2:24pm (upp)Meddelande 42: MrAndrew

#40: you ate one?

nov 8, 2009, 11:57am (upp)Meddelande 43: TheoClarke

Several, in fact.
