March 2008
From WikiThing
Dear LibraryThing member MEMBERNAME,
Here's an update about what's been going on at LibraryThing.
[edit] LibraryThing Local
LibraryThing Local is a gateway to thousands of local bookstores, libraries and book festivals--and to all the author readings, signings, discussions and other events they host. You can keep track of interesting events in your area, show off your favorite bookstores and libraries, and see who else loves the same places you do. In one short week, LibraryThing members have added over 17,500 venues and over 2,000 events. You all are truly extraordinary!
Just think, you'll never again have the "what should we do tonight" conversation! It'll also be useful to be able to pinpoint the good bookshops and libraries when you're visiting a new city.

[edit] Early Reviewer Books
March has our largest batch of Early Reviewer books yet--over 1,400 books to give out! It's quite a selection too: poetry, literary fiction, chick lit, memoir, mystery, historical fiction, travel, cooking, history, biography, humor, and non-fiction books ranging in topics from opera to crime to global warming to the Olympics!
The list of available books is here: http://www.librarything.com/er/list
The deadline for requesting a copy of one of these books is Thursday, March 13th at 6pm EDT. Check the country flags before you request--most books are available to residents of the US and Canada; several are available to residents of the UK and Israel.
Remember, it doesn't matter whether you're the first person to request a copy or the hundredth to request it. We don't give out the books on a first-come-first-served basis. More on how the winning reviewers are selected here, in the Rules and Conditions: http://www.librarything.com/er/signup
[edit] Quick Hits
Tomorrow Tim will announce integration with Google Book Search. Basically, you'll be able to see what Google has for the titles in LibraryThing--full scans, partial views, etc. While most modern books have only partial scans, collectors will find this a neat new way to use LibraryThing.
The good folks from the "I See Dead People['s Books]" group, with some help from the Boston Public Library, have finished adding the library of John Adams, just in time for the HBO miniseries starring Paul Giamatti. See the blog post: http://www.librarything.com/blog/2008/03/weve-added-paul-giamattis-library.php
