This was my first and last Rosamunde Pilcher book. I figured I need to have read at least one before I can tear it apart. Jahreszeitn (seasons) is only 120 pages long and consists of 4 short stories, one for each seaason. Having read those 4 stories I can honestly say I don't need to read any more. All those stories are set in the upper class. The main character is always a young girl. In two stories this young girl falls in love with the neighbour boy and there are complications before they can live happily ever after. In the other two stories the girls are the ugly duckling who envy their tall charming sisters with small waists and narrow hips and long hair. In the course of the story they grow up and suddenly feel better about themselves.
This wouldn't all be so bad if it didn't rely so completely on stereotypes. I mean those stories are set in the late 20th century, but read like they are from the twenties. Women's professions are limited to Nurses, Secretaries, and Mother & Housewife. Boys become successful businessmen or doctors. The style isn't great either. I'm somewhat relieved to say I found out that I hate Rosamunde Pilcher's stories.
