VerkdetaljerHera: The Goddess and her Glory (Olympians) av George O'Connor
Ingen. I really love this series. It's a wonderful and modern way to present these classic Greek stories for a younger audience without totally sanitizing them. Very informative and funny. ( )Hera gets her due in another stunning retelling from O'Connor's Olympians series. Great adventure! The art and illustrations display the cultural focus of Greek mythology. Gods, Goddesses, and classic Greece architecture of structures with pillars and columns are displayed. The vivid pictures definately enhance the myth and make it come alive with facial expressions, bold colors and small minimal black text. This would be a good book for upper elementary middle schoolers to learn about greek mythology. There is a family tree in the book depicting the greek characters and showing their relationship which is helpful to anyone with little or no background in greek mythology.Personally I would be careful as a teacher and sensitive to my student population to include this book in the classroom with its content of infidelity. Third in the Olympians series, Hera, while not as well done as the Athena volume in the series, gives the wife of Zeus her own book. Book does a good job summarizing the labors of Heracles (Hercules) and once again includes footnotes from the author on Greek mythology and its characters. This volume in the series is not as strong because it takes on too much. Hera is the central figure, but all of Heracles' labors are explained (too briefly to do them justice) as well as the background of Jason of golden fleece fame. The intricacy of the Greek myths will make it difficult for those who are not well-versed in the "who's who" to follow each story. The notes at the end help, as does a description of some of the monsters Heracles faces. Those who are already immersed in mythology, however, will love it. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
