A sweet picture book of dog poems, suitable for older children (2nd grade and up) because there are a lot of words on each page. ( )This was my favorite read for the entire class. The poems are so obviously written by dog lovers, and th paintings are perfect. A wonderful introduction to simple poetry and voice. This could also be used when discussing genetics. Some of the poems are very breed specific, and coul dbe interesting to use in combination with discussion about animal breeding and how we choose what type of dog does what work, and how we decide what characteristics they should have. *Used for the Visual Literacy assignment. Prose poetry about puppies plus perfect pictures of puppies. Everything about this book is huggable. Some puppies are sad and cozy; they just want to be safe and warm with you. Some are naughty and really comical, especially Mr. Beefy, who, as the star with the title line, 'once ate a pie'. Whupsi knows how cute he is, and Darla does not play well with other dogs. Louis has a lot to bark about, and Sugar is always sleepy. And on goes the sweetness. A wonderful book. This poetry is about different types of a dog. Each poem is written from the view point of a different dog, which makes reading aloud a joy. A story of dogs told through their own words. The words on the page come to life and one can really connect to the characters. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension

Gus herds his people like sheep.
Abby loves borrowing slippers.
And once, Mr. Beefy ate a pie.
It's a dog's life. Filled with squeaky toys, mischief, and plenty of naps. Every dog has a tail to wag and a tale to tell. Patricia MacLachlan and Emily MacLachlan Charest asked this collection of canines to speak up with their own words, barks, and yips.
