Ingen. This little short is a bit unlike the other work in the series for the simple fact that it's positive and sweet and the main character is happy. Terrible is in most of it, which is a relief because something is missing when he isn't in the picture. The haunting is different from the usual and there is a twist that made the story more interesting. Chess is very much Chess and Terrible is very much himself as well and the writing is superb and the pacing perfect just as I have come to expect from Kane. The story is also the right length, which is often not the case in shorts written with the characters from a series of novels. I didn't feel like I was reading a little snippet of the Downside Ghosts series as an introduction to it. I felt that I was reading a self-contained chunk of a novel, fully realized and containing almost all the elements of one. The only drink lacking was true danger, although there was suspense, and it would have been very hard to include peril in such a short space and do it right, let alone covering everything else. In short (pun intended) this story is exactly what I want a short story from a series to be and yet could stand on it'sown as well (although there are spoilers so don't read it before you've read books one through three unless you don't plan to read those.) I highly recommend this tale. This little short is a bit unlike the other work in the series for the simple fact that it's positive and sweet and the main character is happy. I highly recommend this tale. first up - this is not an intro to the 'downside ghosts' series, and will not make a whole lot of sense to someone who doesn't already know these people rather well. it's a between-books snapshot in the lives of the two main characters of the series, Chess and Terrible. now, i love me some Terrible. and Chess, well, on more than one occasion, i've wished she could just relax for a couple of chapters and enjoy the parts of her life that aren't horrible, to go ahead and enjoy the brief moments where things are actually good. apparently, i should be careful what i wish for, because it just doesn't make for a very strong dramatic line. i think as a brief interlude in the midst of a more hectic book-length story, this might have been quite nice. as it is, though, since there's not much in the way of tension, it reads more like wish-fulfilling fan-fic. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension

No wonder this is my favorite series! Extremely well written, and a nice story to keep the fans happy while waiting for the next installment. Chess has changed so much since the first novel, even if she still has a lot of flaws, she finally realizes that some people can be trusted, and that she is loved.
