May she be delicate, beautiful, and charming. ( ) This book is about a young lady that is proven to be a princess because she was able to feel a pea under many mattresses. It is a classical story that I enjoyed as a child but the only problem that could arise is the fact that the book makes the princess sound very fragile. It could create problems in young ladies wanting to be a princess but not a fragile princess. A classic tale almost two hundred years old, Hans Christian Anderson's tale is short and simple, but the story of a lost girl becoming Princess by virtue of her soft skin and extremely sensitive body by way of pea is one that has struck around. It's a good tale, simple and easy, but perhaps the moral being that your worth is only in your soft skin and sensitive form is the wrong one for impressionable young girls who are waiting on their own Prince(or Princess for that matter), and should not be expected to be perfect. I doubt it was intended that way, but the message is perhaps not appropriate and I'd likely not use it in a classroom of young girls. Perhaps older readers would appreciate it more, and it could be analyzed properly without harm. I did not like the book, “The Princess and the Pea.” Once again, I feel it gives a terrible message to its readers. The prince is unsatisfied with marrying any woman unless she is a princess. Today, many girls have low self-esteem and confidence. They constantly compare themselves to models and actresses that are “picture perfect” or “wealthy.” This book supports this idea. For example the book states, “The prince went back to see the queen. He told her about the beautiful girls and the girls who wore crowns. He told the queen that they were not real princesses. They prince could not find a princess to marry. So he was still lonely.” I read this book when I was a little girl, and although I cannot clearly remember my reaction, I assume I saw nothing wrong with it. That is where I find this book unappealing. It is supporting the society of looks and wealth. The unfortunate part is most children probably find this book and its message normal, when they should be appalled. I will definitely not have this book in my classroom. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
