Cute! Simple story and illustrations, but really move-y - I pictures all the actions I would make the kiddies do when reading this one for storytime. ( )

A charming rise-and-shine story inspired by the adage "The early bird gets the worm." A delightful twist ending is icing on the cake. The chunky images in bold and bright colors seem simple but actually convey quite a lot of motion, emotion, and perspective. The text mirrors the visual action on some pages but isn't content to sit still: Words stretch and leap and bend and even blend into the flowerbed.

Encourage storytime friends to mimic Early Bird's morning journey to the garden: stretching tall, taking a deep breath, running in place, ducking under the spider's web, rising up up up (the path), turning around (the corner), and jumping up (to avoid the cat).
Try adapting this one into a flannel story!

This is a great book for beginning readers. Throughout this book, the reader can see the early morning adventure the bird goes through in order to get breakfast. The book gives great descriptive words throughout the book to describe the birds journey to get breakfast. This book is more leveled towards lower elementary grades for kindergarten and pre-school age kids because it has simple words and bright and colorful pictures that the students understand the pictures are within the book such as a bird or a worm. A lesson that could be used with this book and have an activity to help students understand adventure and in 1st grade it could be used for describing the story line and what happens next after the story ends. Throughout this book, the reader can see the early morning adventure the bird goes through in order to get breakfast. Many descriptive words are used in this book such as; under, over, above, across, and through. This book can be used in the younger grades and can be used as an activity that involves the students to describe an adventure they went on and what it took to get there. ( )

This book is centered more towards the early childhood ed with simple pictures and a straight forward story line. This book can be used for different sight word study along with allowing the students to create their own ideas regarding each page as the bird moves along its day. These inferences can help with the students overall understanding of the different words and storyline within the book. ( )
