Amelia Bedelia By the Yard

Summary:
On the way home from the park Amelia's mom wanted to stop at a garage sale. Amelia's dad told Amelia's mother that they are going to have a garage sale. Amelia was worried about her father's design for a sign, because she thought they were selling the garage and the yard not just some of the stuff. Amelia helped one lady by getting a stick from a tree,when she asked for a yard stick, and by selling some of the flowers that were planted in the yard. Amelia and her parents considered the yard sale a success.

Reaction:
I thought this book was at times funny and it told a nice story. I remember helping my cousins' and my aunt with a garage sale, I enjoyed helping people during the sale as well. Although I also enjoyed being around my cousins and brother while setting up for the sale. The character of Amelia is one that wants to help but because she is young she helps in ways that an adult would not consider helpful. The setting of the book was Amelia's yard.

I grew up with Peggy Parish's Amelia Bedelia books, and I'm happy to see new versions on the shelves. The illustrations are bright and whimsical, and the story is fun and teaches about what "things" are truly important. ( )
