George Ella Lyon shares the power and beauty that comes of reading a good book through metaphors and poetry. By comparing a book to a house, a chest, and a field, she expresses how a good book provides comfort, nostalgia, adventure, and freedom. The illustrations depict how readers can dive into a good book and step into a new world; a good book has the power to transform and enlighten a person. Truly this book makes me want to pick up a good book, soar away, and let it do its magic. ( ) Book of Choice: Book written by George Ella Lyon Book written by George Ella Lyon and illustrated by Peter Catalanotto is an informational picture book that introduces the adventure of reading to young students. The author, who dedicated the book to a Montessori school in her community, begins her text with a guiding question, “What is it you hold in your hand?” The pages that followed produced some of the best discussion I’ve had with my kindergarten class so far this year. Book is wonderfully illustrated and written in bold black or red font that spins and swirls across the pages creating an illusion of flight and freedom. My students were fascinated by the pictures in this book and were full of questions and comments as I turned each page. As I read my students were engaged, their eyes fixed on every page. Additionally, Book provided the prefect platform to discuss our literary focus this month, nonfiction biographies. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
