This book is appropriate for kindergarten-2nd grade. This book is about a granddaughter who is gardening with her grandma and asks why her grandma is wearing such colorful clothes. The grandma then tells about her time in residential school where she would break the rules with friends when she was alone. I would use this in my classroom library for students to read in their free time. This book describes with such tenderness and grace the story of a grandmother telling her granddaughter about her past life when she had to attend residential school. As is expressed on the fly leaf, this is a story bouta difficult time in history and also a story of empowerment and strength. Good for ages 6+. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension

"When a young girl helps tend to her grandmother's garden, she begins to notice things that make her curious. Why does her grandmother have long, braided hair and beautifully colored clothing? Why does she speak another language and spend so much time with her family? As she asks her grandmother about these things, she is told about life in a residential school a long time ago, where all of these things were taken away. When We Were Alone is a story about a difficult time in history, and, ultimately, one of empowerment and strength."-- Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |
