Rose is the nice, work-driven sister; her stepsister, Blanche, is the mean, lazy one. When Rose follows her spindle down a well, she finds herself in a different land, where she helps an apple tree shake itself free of fruit and milks a cow whose udders are full. She also lives with the ugly but kind Mother Holly and is showered in gold for her trouble. Then Blanche goes down the well, but she finds that the choices she makes lead to thorns. Towards the ending, Stewig has the girls returning together to Mother Holly, and Blanche is finally rewarded after Rose teaches her helpfulness. Kids will probably prefer the less-educational original in which good over rules the bad. This is an intriguing retell that captures the accent of fairy tales as well as the genre's sweet lessons ( ) Mother Holly is about two girls who parents married each other. Rose worked very hard and did not want lavish things, on the other hand, Blanche was spoiled, lazy, and unappreciative. The stepmother was mean to Rose and made her work until her fingers bled. Rose went into an alternate world where she worked for Mother Holly. Rose did such a wonderful job she sent her back in gold from head to toe. Blanche was furious and did went to Mother Holly. She was so lazy and disrespectful that Mother Holly covered her in barbs and bristles. She was so miserable that both, Rose and Blanche, went back to Mother Holly and worked together. They were great together and did the chores perfectly so she sent them back both covered in gold. This story is about you get what you deserve. Rose worked hard and she respected others and she deserved the gold. Blanche was lazy and disrespectful so she got what she deserved. Also, I learned that this was about family because rose never gave up on Blanche and helped her become a better person. This book would be great to read to students about giving others a second chance and about doing their work to the best of their ability because they will be rewarded for it. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
