Lady Wombat says: A lovely ending to a charming series. The seventh book in the Bridgerton series. This one revolves around Hyacinth Bridgerton and Gareth St. Clair, and a mystery contained in a diary written in Italian! There’s lots of humor in this book, and the mystery element is done in a fun way. I very much enjoyed this book with it’s lighthearted tone. - Gregory, the youngest of the Bridgertons, believes in true love (witness his brothers and sisters for evidence), and figures all he needs to do is wait for it to happen. It does, at a sibling’s party – he’s struck by the view of a young woman’s nape, and just like that, he’s in love. Unfortunately, nearly every other man in London is in love with the same woman, but luckily for Gregory, his true love’s best friend, Lucinda, decides to help Gregory woo her friend. However, Lucinda soon realizes that she is in love with Gregory, and misery (and lots of wit) ensues. I enjoyed this one – all of the wit of the others, with some truly romantic (clutch in my chest) moments. This is my favorite out of the Bridgerton series, althought "The Viscount Who Loved Me" is a close second! Unlike most men of his aquaintance, Gregory Bridgerton believes in true love. And he is convinced that when he finds the woman of his dreams, he will know in an instant that she is the one! And that is exactly what happened. Except.... She wasn't the one. In fact, the ravishing Miss Hermione Watson is in love wha another. But her best friend, the ever-practical Lady Lucinda Abernathy, would like to save Hermione from a disastrous alliance, so she help Gregory win her over. But in the process of helping Gregory, she falls for him. Except... Lucy is in engaged. And her uncle is not very inclined to let her out of her betrothal to another, even once Gregory comes to his senses and realizes that he love Lucy and not Hermione. And now on the way to the wedding, Gregory must risk his heart to ensure that when he kisses the bride, he will be the only man standing there. I gave this book 5 stars, because I love this series very much and Gregory was my favorite out of the Bridgerton's even when he was little. He was very funny when he was younger, throughout the series you'll see, although he does not speak very often in the series, when he does or does an action, its funny. Like tossing peas at his sister Hyacinth. This was just what the doctor ordered when I was sick and Valentine-less. Quinn's historical romances ride the line between regencies and bodice-rippers (this one has only one--fairly graphic-- sex scene) and her characters are always well developed and witty. This is the eighth and final novel in her Bridgerton Family series, but I wouldn't say you have to have read the others in order to appreciate it (although they're fab, especially The Duke and I and The Viscount Who Loved Me). My only complaint was that the whole last hundred pages or so seemed tacked on, with a somewhat extraneous blackmail/thriller plot that I felt wasn't necessary. Recommended for a light, delightful romance read. Gregory Bridgerton has always expected that love would hit him like a thunderbolt, that he will just know when he meets the woman with whom he is meant to spend the rest of his life. When he sees Miss Hermione Watson, he knows. Although Hermione is smitten with her father’s secretary, her best friend Lady Lucinda Abernathy knows that Mr. Bridgerton is a far better match, and sets about trying to help Gregory win her friend. After all, Lucy can’t have him, she’s practically engaged; or can she? We know right from the start that Lucy and Gregory are the intended couple here, and it works. Crushes aren’t love and it’s easier to see them get along than it is to see Gregory stumble all over himself when Hermione barely gives him a second glance. I don’t really expect realism from these historical romances, but I found this one to be cute and sweet and often very funny. Lucy and Gregory’s banter is endearing and engaging and I liked watching them fall in love against their better judgment. This one isn’t too racy, either, which is always nice; I prefer to read about two people that genuinely like each other rather than a couple that just wants a legitimate way to have sex all the time. This is a cute, sweet read, and I’d recommend it for romance readers; it’s a terrific example of the genre. http://chikune.com/blog/?p=233 With a refreshing look at a younger couple, nearly babies really, this final Bridgerton story is touching and hilarious by turns. * * * * A keeper. Not the best in the series, but good. I enjoyed it, largely because I love listening to Simon Prebble, but I couldn't take too many of these romance stories, certainly not more than one in a row. I quite enjoyed this last of the Bridgerton series, although the Amazon reviews were not good at all... This is the last Bridgerton book, and like all the rest, I quite enjoyed it! Gregory is quite a bit unlike his older brothers - he's a total romantic rather than a rake - which I find to be quite adorable. Lucy, on the other hand, is a strong woman who tries to take care of all of her problems herself, even to the extent that she's willing to give up the man she loves to save her family. She does not do this, however, by getting desperately out of time period - she is able to be a strong woman within the confines of the social structure of the day. Brava to Julia Quinn for that! This book is charming, and I highly reccomend. Gregory loves the wrong woman, who is in love with another man. Lucy Abernathy decides to meddle, and falls in love with Gregory, however she's promised in marriage to another man. When Gregory falls in love with her things aren't as simple as they might seem. Fully of intrigue, love and some serious complications going on in the world, it's a very fun read. The characters are believable and their motives are believable too. I did enjoy it a lot. Nothing here is more spoilered than from the inside of the front cover! I laughed, I cried....Julia Quinn has written a delightful end to her Bridgertons Series. The chapter headers act more like a story outline, so the reader is never truly mislead as to the hero's affections. And yet, Ms. Quinn sells the emotions right up to the end. Two very sympathetic characters. I enjoyed the plot twists in this story. I do not consider Julia Quinn novels an intense read, but her writing voice is engaging, intelligent... utterly delightful. Last in the Bridgerton series, a satisfying conclusion, though not as enjoyable as the first few. Difficult to keep that level of humor and emotion up though, so, overall, good. I didn't enjoy this book as well as the others in the Bridgerton series. I thought, since this was the final book, we'd see more of the siblings and I was disappointed that we did not. This book was also not quite as humorous as the others, although I really did like Lucy and her spunk. Perhaps, if it hadn't been a "Bridgerton" book; I might not have been disappointed ~ however, Julia set a higher standard in her earlier novels and didn't quite hit the mark with the one. |
