The Pursuit of Alice Thrift -- Elinor Lipman’s witty novel about a socially inept doctor in training
Abraham Verghese’s novel Cutting for Stone -- I’m reading it ... ... question. Elinor Lipman fits the bill for me. (touchstones not working). She's written The Inn at Lake Devine, The Pursuit of Alice Thrift, among others. Of course, Jane Austen is a classic example. Still am reading and enjoying the books noted above, but snuck over to my 'I just want to escape for a bit of fun' pile to spend the afternoon with Elinor Lipman. :-) 7. You might enjoy Elinor Lipman's fast, funny novel, The Pursuit of Alice Thrift, about a geeky doctor-in-training.
I'll be interested in what others recommend here. ... -- wryly funny while being a reflective, 1960s coming-of-age story involving anti-Semitism at a Vermont lodge. I also liked The Pursuit of Alice Thrift, it's light and comedic about a nerdy doctor-in-training. My Latest Grievance was only okay.
