They decide that they want to eat Gerda the Cow but her friend will simply not allow it. The young girl fixes up the giants and teaches the manners, cleanliness and how to live in harmony with people of the town. She becomes the best teacher of manners in all the town and no one gets eaten! The book is about a girl who has a cow. Two rude giants move into her town. They are loud and messy. They want to eat her cow, but she convinces them that the cow will not taste good unless they are clean, have manners, and clean up the place. The story talks about how to be polite and have manners. It is a good story for children to learn about manners. Eventually, the giants have a baby and still are friends with the girl and the cow. I didn't really feel this book had much of a lesson or a plot twist to make it interesting. I did really enjoy the illustrations, though. This book is for PreK-2nd grade. It revolves around two clumsy unwanted giants who come and invade a village. The giants are eventually taught table manners and are accepted in the town. I feel this story would be great in teaching children why manners are so important. It would create great conversation in the classroom. Overall, great read! Beatrix the butter maid and her best friend, Gerda the cow, make the best butter in the vilage. They lived a coz life until two rude giants moved into the nearby castle. One day the giants stole Gerda on one of their rampages. Beatrix was determined to save her friend. She persuades them that the cow will not taste good until they clean their filthy castle, learn pleasant manners, and make themselves beautiful. The giants are so astonished at the way they act and look they couldn't possible eat the cow, but they are still very hungry. So Beatrix goes to the village and gets everyone to go back to the castle with food from home. There was enough food for everyone. From then on the giants showed good manners. This book could be used to dicuss being polite to everyone with children of all ages.
