This was a little collection of short fantasy/romance stories, by 4 women writers, that I picked up at the library book sale. I had never tried any of the authors before, so I thought it would be a fun experiment.
And it was fun. The first ... ... books for a few days, as I'm not feeling good and I've just been rereading favorites instead of anything new. I did start The Queen in Winter and I *loved* the first story, 'A Whisper of Spring.' Just what I was in the mood for. ... -- if I get to it before the end of the year.
Best short story: "When Winter Comes" by Sharon Shinn, from The Queen in Winter
Worst fiction book: Confessions of a Teen Nanny by Victoria Aston. I'm still not sure why I finished this one, but it was dreck.

1. The Queen in Winter, solely for the Sarah Monette novella. The rest of the book wasn't really on the same level; the Sharon Shinn novella was good, but I really don't care if I never read the other two again.

149. Softies by Therese Laskey - library, ... ... most interesting in fantasy. I also really enjoyed A Companion to Wolves and The Bone Key, and I loved her story in The Queen in Winter. (Unfortunately, not all the novellas were of the same quality). ... and one of my favourites. It's a smooth, quietly beautiful story that gets me every time.
I'm on the third novella in The Queen in Winter. I enjoyed Sharon Shinn's story quite a bit, but the ones from Lynn Kurland and Claire Delacroix haven't done much for me. I think they're ... I'm about a third of the way through The Queen in Winter, a collection of four novellas. It's decent so far, but the first story didn't exactly blow me out of the water. #79 -- I recently read The Queen in Winter. Monette's story was good, as was Sharon Shinn's. (I found the other two to be mediocre). The Sharon Shinn tied in with her Twelve Houses series, which I really enjoyed, so I was happy to see that. ... hadn't priced it at half of what it should've cost, according to their pricing scheme. Huh. I grabbed it up.
I found The Queen in Winter almost by accident. There were quite a few author names on the spine, so I tugged it out to see if it was short fiction or one of those books by ... ... Blues by Richelle Mead. I really (much to my surprise) liked it. I'm preordering the next one...
I started The Queen in Winter (which is trade-sized in amazon.com's bargain books section, incase anyone wants it cheap), which is pretty good so far. Also started three other books ...
