Many interesting things to make inside this book. What is really interesting is that it focuses on the scientific aspect of food. Very engaging for younger readers. Also, it will help to engage young readers that may not be as interested in science or struggle with the sciences. “Science Experiments You Can Eat” is a fun book designed to show changes that take place in our food during various cooking processes. Although the book was first published in 1972, many changes had occurred since then, like the rise in microwave oven popularity, which propelled the author to update the book in 1994. At first glance, the book looks like a cooking book for children; however, after reading the book I realized that it was more of a science book that utilizes food as the medium to conduct the experiments. In total the book contains ten chapters detailing ten different experiments with food and kitchenware. What I enjoyed about the book is the variety of experiments it offers. In some cases, the experiments’ appeal is driven by the output of the experiment, while in other cases the appeal lies solely in its outcome. In other words, sometimes the book motivates the reader to conduct the experiment by offering a fun way to cook a desirable food/dessert, while in other instances the food produced by the experiment is unpalatable, and the fun lies solely in the information you will learn by conducting the experiment. Additionally, the book layout is very appropriate for a science book. The author starts every experiment by providing the reader with important information about the subject and clearly explains the purpose of the experiment. Next, the author lists the required items and provides the reader with the procedure’s steps. Finally, every experiment is concluded with an observation. I found the book to be fun, informative and easy to follow. In my opinion the book was well written in an appropriate layout that would appeal to the curiosity of children between ages of 7-10 years. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
