I always enjoy these cozy mysteries. There really isn't much of a mystery at all, but they are lovely glimpses of life, well portrayed and very real. Relaxing, comforting reading. ( )

Another good one by Smith. I like this series much more than the African stories. He develops the characters in a believable manner. My goal is to meet him some day to discuss his outlooks on life. Very positive! ( )

I always enjoy Alexander McCall Smith's books. I like their thoughtfulness, quiet humor, gentle and sometimes wry outlook on life. The Isabel Dalhousie books have been a little slow for my taste, but I truly loved this one. I think it was because I read it following having read six books on Rwanda and a number of good, but violent mysteries. Then our family became engulfed in a medical crisis, with way too much drama and trauma. This book was interesting enough to hold my attention during a time of many distractions and deep emotions and had a soothing, calming, encouraging effect on my emotions and soul. I highly recommend it for those who like quieter, thoughtful books, at least sometimes. Thank you, Mr. Smith!! ( )

Another pleasant blend of Isabel's daily life, a bit of mystery and a lot of moral philosophy ( )

Isabel Dalhousie is asked to help clear a doctor of allegations of scientific fraud. In the meantime she tends to her infant Charlie, and wonders about her relationship with Charlie's father, Jamie. The sort of book you can read on a muddy Saturday afternoon for comfort but without the power of The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series. Bokbeskrivning

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0375425136, Hardcover)

In the fabulous new installment in the best-selling adventures of Isabel Dalhousie, Isabel is asked to help a doctor who has been disgraced by allegations of scientific fraud concerning a newly marketed drug. Our ever-curious moral philosopher finds her interest piqued. Would a doctor with a stellar reputation make such a simple but grave mistake? If not, what explains the tragic accident that resulted in the death of a patient? Clearly, an investigation is in order, especially since a man's reputation is in jeopardy. Could he be the victim of someone else's mistake? Or perhaps he has been willfully deceived by a pharmaceutical company with a great deal to gain.

Not every problem prompts an investigation (take, for example, her ongoing struggle with her housekeeper, Grace, over the care of Isabel's infant son, Charlie), but, as we've seen, whatever the case, whatever the solution, Isabel's combination of spirit, smarts, empathy, and unabashed nosiness guarantees a delightful adventure.
