The second book in this series of a relaxed, philosophic life in Edinburgh with the odd bit of amateur detective work thrown in. A nice gentle pace, with ample opportunity for the author to throw in philosophic asides. Nice stuff. Read November 2008 ( )I love Alexander McCall Smith's writing, which is deceptively simple and easy to read but does deal with some profound truths. Isabel is a great character and I love her daily struggles to do the right thing. just lovely I enjoyed the second book in this mystery series as much as the first. A very different kind of mystery story, so may not appeal to everyone. I can strongly relate to the main character who is female, in her 40s, and spends a lot of time thinking about what goes on around her and the philosophical aspects of things. The characters carried over from the first book continue to work well together. Isabel is a very human protagonist often jumping to conclusions which causes her regret in the future. However, you get the impression that she grows from her experiences. An entertaining and witty book (as all McCall's books). inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0375422994, Hardcover)In this delightful second installment in Alexander McCall Smith’s best-selling new detective series, the irrepressibly curious Isabel Dalhousie, editor of the Review of Applied Ethics, gets caught up in an affair of the heart—this one a transplant. When Isabel’s niece, Cat, asks Isabel to run her delicatessen while she attends a wedding in Italy, Isabel meets a man with a most interesting problem. He recently had a heart transplant and is suddenly plagued with memories of events that never happened to him. The situation appeals to Isabel as a philosophical question: Is the heart truly the seat of the soul? And it piques her insatiable curiosity: Could the memories be connected with the donor’s demise? Of course, Grace—Isabel’s no-nonsense housekeeper—and Isabel’s friend Jamie think it is none of Isabel’s business. Meanwhile, Cat brings home an Italian lothario, who, in accordance with all that Isabel knows about Italian lotharios, shouldn’t be trusted . . . but, goodness, he is charming. That makes two mysteries of the heart to be solved—just the thing for Isabel Dalhousie. (hämtat från Amazon Fri, 24 Apr 2009 07:58:09 -0400) Första testrundan har stängts.
