This book reminds me that I am not alone and happiness is always around me. ( )

I sped through this one and could hardly put it down. I don't remember feeling this way about one of these books for a while. I'm sure I probably know more about soccer (football) than Mme Ramotswe did, but I thought she did pretty well. I like this series because you can read a good mystery without getting scared. ( )

I put this review here, but it applies to his books generally - I have fallen a little bit in love with Alexander McCall Smith. (And highly recommend listening to them on audio books - it is the perfect media for them) ( )

Alexander McCall Smith is,I think, some sort of genius. Why ? Because no one else could write a series of (up to yet) 10 books about A Botswana Ladies Detective Agency,in which little or nothing of importance ever happens, yet are very popular and readable.
'Tea Time for the Traditionally Built' is no exception. There is a case regarding the local football team and why they are losing all of their games. There is the potential demise of Mma Ramotswe's little white van and the heartbreak attached. Also Mma Makutsi's troubles with he old rival Violet Stephotho, when she plots to steal Mma Makutsi's future husband.
Not at all the stuff of serial killers, fast car chases and thrill-a-minute novels that are the norm these days - but somehow, against all odds, they work, and work well too.
A throughly pleasant and enjoyable read once again. A true joy to brighten this rather gray age that we live in. ( )

I was really disappointed in this latest of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Series. The first couple of chapters were pretty much recapping the rest of the series and even after that, the book was pretty dull -- with just a few bright spots. Worst was that Mma Ramotswe came off really condescending and martyrish to Mma Makutsi. ( )

Bokbeskrivning

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0375424490, Hardcover)

The tenth installment of this universally beloved and best-selling series finds Precious Ramotswe in personal need of her own formidable detection talents.

Mma Ramotswe’s ever-ready tiny white van has recently developed a rather disturbing noise. Of course, Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni–-her estimable husband and one of Botswana’s most talented mechanics––is the man to turn to for help. But Precious suspects he might simply condemn the van and replace it with something more modern. And as usual, her suspicions are well-founded: without telling her, he sells the van and saddles his wife with a new, characterless vehicle . . . a situation that must be remedied. And so she sets out to find the van, unaware, for the moment, that it has already been stolen from the man who bought it, making recovery a more complicated process than she had expected.

In the meantime, all is not going smoothly for Mma Makutsi in her engagement to Mr Phuti Radiphuti (to make matters worse, Violet Sephotho, who could not have gotten more than fifty percent on her typing final at the Botswana Secretarial School, is involved). And finally, the proprietor of a local football team has enlisted the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency to help explain its dreadful losing streak: surely someone must be fixing the games, it can’t just be a case of unskilled players.

And as we know, there are few mysteries that can’t be solved and fewer problems that can’t be fixed when Precious Ramotswe puts her mind to it.
