Repite alguna de sus obsesiones con variaciones y humor negro muy bien dosificado. Hay viñetas impagables, y la de la portada es una de ellas.
Otro título recomendable y disfrutado. ( )

Emily Says Hello might be my favourite Jason story so far, and Early Film Noir had should get a star just for it's ending. ( )

Low Moon, published in 2009, is a collection of stories by the author/illustrator Jason. He has won numerous awards for his work inluding Ignatz Awards, a Harvey Award, and several Eisner Awards.

Low Moon is a collection of five short stories. They are all told with minimal dialogue and drawn in Jason's typical minimalist style. In the first story, "Emily Says Hello" a hitman murders people in return for sexual favors from a woman, presumably Emily. "Low Moon" is a Western-style story about a chess hero, Bill McGill who returns to town to play chess against the town's sheriff and others. Like in nearly every Jason story, people die and nearly everyone is terminally depressed. "&" is the intersecting story of one man trying to make enough money as an art-thief to pay for his dying mother's operation, and another man attempting to win the heart of the woman he loves by killing off all her husbands. Once again, nothing ends happily. The mother dies, and the woman kills herself. The two main characters end up together sitting at a bar, wordlessly drinking away their trouble. In Proto Film Noir a man kills the husband of the woman he is having an affair with over and over but each time he comes back to life. In the end he finally kills him, but the woman turns him in and he ends up in jail. In the last story "You are Here" the story begins with a woman being abducted by an alien. The story then shows the next twenty years of her son's life as well as twenty years of her husband building a rocket to go find her. Eventually they do finish the rocket but when they get to space the husband dies. The son has no luck finding his mother, and the story ends with a shot of his mother, still on earth, looking at an old picture of her family.

I loved this collection. It is my favorite of Jason's books, all of which are terrific. The story is told with his typical dark style and illustrated in his signature minimal style, which he says was influenced by herge, the author of Tintin. Each story is incredibly beautiful, and incredibly depressing. There is some humour in the stories, but not typical funny- ha ha humour. It's more like your dog gets hit by a car and lives and you're so happy and then you turn around and watch your mother get hit by a different car. Ha Ha. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't like dark and depressing work. ( )

I saw the cover of Jason's book "Low Moon" and immediately recalled the unique character design from the paperback of Kerouac's "Dharma Bums"... not that this alone was enough to get my to snatch up the book.

Jason's visions in this book range widely in their subject, but all share a common element: Something out of place. Take the eponymous "Low Moon," where in the "Wild West" setting we are offered a vision of a genteel sheriff and nemesis who match wits not behind the smoking barrels of six-shooters, but over a chess board. Within the story there are a number of distinctly "out of place" technological inventions. Even the title, "Low Moon" (perhaps as opposed to "High Noon") hints at a world turned on its head.

The stories in this volume are painful, but also hopeful. Jason sees the world as a hard, difficult, and sometimes unforgiving place. He gives us characters who have left behind the possibility of a better version of themselves... or so it seems. He also hints at the possibility of redemption with the right changes.

Overall, a great read for the fan of the modern graphic novel. Good, simple, clean, and meaningful. ( )

Okay, this has got to be one of the most unusual books I have had the pleasure of perusing in quite a long time. A tossed salad of genres that turns into humorous outcomes for the reader's pleasure. ( )
