This story is a twist on the Paul Bunyan folk tale. Paul gets married and has two children. The things the children do explain the land formations of America. For example, the Rocky Mountains were formed by Paul's wife to keep the kids from wandering off.

Paul Bunyan met his wife, Carrie McIntie, in the forests of Kentucky and they were both gigantic! They were married right away and had two children, Little Jean and Teeny. Throughout the story there are several geographical references to Mammoth Cave, Maine, Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon, Sand Dunes of Colorado, Atlantic and Pacific Ocean, Rocky Mountains, Old Faithful, Yellowstone National Park, England and Italy. All the many adventures of the Bunyan family are entertaining and would be a great way to introduce a unit on geography.

The story is about how Paul Bunyan met his wife and the family they had together. He and his wife had two children, a boy and a girl. Growing up, they created some of the natural wonders of North America, such as Niagara Falls and Old Faithful. The story explains how and why they created these wonders.

I have always enjoyed the tall tale of Paul Bunyan. I enjoyed this book because it tells what happens to Paul. It explains the "happily ever after" part that is often missing from stories. The author was very creative in how he kept to the original story about Paul creating massive land forms and rivers. It also has excellent illustrations that show the Bunyans creating the land forms.

This would be a good story to read during a tall tale lesson. The teacher could explain that this is the other half of the story about Paul Bunyan. (Of course the teacher should read the original story of Paul Bunyan first.) Another project the students could participate in is writing. The teacher could ask the students to pick their favorite tall tale and write what they think happpens next. ( )

The Bunyans is a marvelous book that takes the tale of Paul Bunyan and elaborates on his life. Paul marries a gigantic woman named Carrie and they have two huge children Jean and Teeny. As they go on adventures the family creates many natural wonders such as the Rocky Mountains, Niagara Falls, Old Faithful, and many more. This book would be great for discussing the natural wonders of North America with elementary school age students. Paul Bunyan meets his wife, and they get married. Their two children get into many scrapes, and these result in many landmarks of our country. The story follows their entire life. This book is an excellent way to segway into geopraphy. A good website for this book is: http://www.audreywood.com/mac_site/cl...
