Remember in Alien, how every time you expected something to happen, that darn cat would pop up and then you would relax and THEN something would happen. I kept expecting Gretchen to appear here and kept getting that darn cat. Pretty impressive story when you can keep the audiences attention even when one of your main characters is not in a good chunk of the book.

The book starts with Detective Archie Sheridan having voluntarily committed himself to a psych ward. He is there and Gretchen is everywhere, she has become a celebrity, she is everywhere we would see Jon and Kate. She torments Archie without actually coming in contact with him. Archie, Henry and Susan investigate a series or crimes that might or might not have been committed by the Beauty Killer. Chelsea Cain incorporates a discussion on celebrity and why society focuses so much on serial killers. This is a thoroughly engrossing book that makes me look forward to the next book in the series.

This was the third in a series involving Gretchen Lowell a female serial killer and Archie Sheridan one of her victims and the only survivor. Much of the story invloves their strange and disturbing relationship. This book is not for the faint of heart as it can be disturbing but for me was something I couldn't put down!
Cain does a great job of developing the characters and their very strange relationship! A very good story that will appeal to even those readers who haven't read the first two books. Highly recommended! ( )

Sadly, this seems to be a part of a series, so I was a bit lost at first. However, Cain managed to grab my attention and drag me through to the end. It was awesome, to say the least. Gritty and gory, filled with all the details 'normal' people don't want. I loved every minute of it.

I loved this book from the first few pages. An incredible start, and you don't need to read the first two books to catch up to the full story. This is the best yet in the series in my opinion. The author just gets better and better. The Dexter series has finally gotten some serious competition! ( )

Gretchen Lowell is the queen bee of psychopaths - a killer who makes a sadistic art of torture - and she's on the loose again. Are a recent spate of killings her handiwork, or the product of some over-zealous copycat fans? Archie Sheridan checks himself out of the psychiatric hospital to find out. Susan Ward is the perfect partner for Sheridan - their dialogue and Susan's thoughts lend some humour to the chills and horror. Couldn't put this one down. ( )

Bokbeskrivning

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0230710867, Paperback)

This is the blistering new serial-killer thriller in Cain's "Gretchen Lowell" series. A college student is found dead, floating in a rowing boat on a lake, a gaping wound in his abdomen. The autopsy reveals that his spleen was removed while he was still alive. A media frenzy ensues, the press reaching the same conclusion as the local law enforcement: Gretchen Lowell, the 'Beauty Killer', still at large following her prison escape, is back and she's killing again. But Detective Archie Sheridan, on medical leave following his last run-in with Gretchen, isn't so sure. The more he discovers about the murders the more convinced he is that they could be the work of a copy-cat. Plus Archie has other things to worry about - his health is declining sharply and he is being stalked by a strange young man. At first Archie dismisses him as one of a disturbed group who are obsessed with Gretchen and romanticise Archie's ten-day ordeal with her. But as the young man's attentions begin to intensify, it becomes clear that this group will go to great lengths to feel close to the Beauty Killer...Archie, along with journalist Susan Ward, is desperate to find the truth behind this new spate of killings. But it is Gretchen who holds the answers and copy-cat or not, she still has one more victim in mind.
