I have no idea why the other person who rated this book, did so and gave it a 2 star rating. It should be rated much higher.
I am a bit of a gambler, with Blackjack as my normal pleasure but I always looked at the crap table and there was much more excitement there at all times. But it is not an easy game to understand. Obviously the casino management has little control over the mechanics of the game as they do with BlackJack where multiple decks, automatic shufflers and the ever vigilance for card counters whose skill is viewed as "cheating" , to increase the house advantage.
Rather it is not the roll of the dice, but when, where and how much the bet(s) are made, that control the house advantage. And this is where the book shines.... It points out the mechanics of play very well but also it shows which bets are sucker bets and how to reduce the house advantage to less than 1%.
The explanations are clear, written in easy to understand language and supported with multiple sample examples on any point. I have not played the game....yet... but I will with a clear understanding of which bets and combination bets to make and what to avoid.
All because I found this book in a used book store. It discusses, etiquette at the table, money management, the types of bets...which to make and which to avoid, some differences between Atlantic City and Las Vegas and I will enter a game soon armed with a pretty comprehensive knowledge ... and enjoy myself...no matter what the outcome is..... 2 thumbs up… (mer)
