Judith Alter

I liked the book, Life Skills Biographies, Oprah Winfrey, by Judy Alter. The big idea in this book is a collection of facts about Oprah Winfrey’s life. The books in the “Life Skills” collection are written about people that have what it takes to “succeed in the 21st century. “The author wrote short chapters about different parts of Oprah’s life, beginning with her younger years of being bounced around from home to home and the abuse the she endured, to her later years as a talk-show host and her school in Africa for young girls. The author made it a point to use a different color for specific words. Those words were vocabulary words that were defined in the glossary, located towards the end of the book. The illustrations are photographs of places that Oprah had lived or worked as well as photos of her family and friends. There is also a timeline in the book that showcases her life events and achievements from 1954-2007.… (mer)
