Hajime Asano

I found this a lot less appealing than previous volumes. The balance of the first few seems to have been upset, and because the story relies on you accepting preposterous behaviour at face value, I found this one artificial and fanservicey. Yeah, it always had fanservice, but I was able to shrug it off before and enjoy the story. Somewhere, a fine line has been crossed, and suddenly there are really absurdly tenuous justifications for random nudity - seriously, a character who rips off people's clothes, people. It's too surreal to fit what I see as the existing tone of the setting and I can't read it as anything but a pretext for the nudity. I don't care about nudity, mind, I just don't want it crammed in at random to pander to some imagined audience that isn't me.

Irritated by this, I was much less able to enjoy Kinjirou's well-meaning helpfulness colliding with the politicking of the girls. Not sure I will bother to read any more. A shame, as until now I've been quite interested in each of the characters' development.… (mer)
