- Kort biografi
- Eleanor Marx was born in London, England, the youngest daughter of Karl Marx and his wife Jenny von Westphalen. She became her father's secretary, a socialist and labor activist, feminist, public speaker, translator of Madame Bovary and other works into English, biographer, and editor. Independently of her father, she was a charismatic and influential figure in 19th century socialist politics. She was briefly engaged to Hippolyte Prosper-Olivier Lissagaray, a French journalist and revolutionary, and translated his History of the Paris Commune of 1871. She set up house out of wedlock with the married socialist Edward Aveling and sometimes called herself Mrs. Marx Aveling. She committed suicide (or was murdered) at age 43.
