It's rare to find a mixed media art book in the library. The one other one I've found doesn't have a style I like--too loud and eclectic. However, Creative Paint Workshop for Mixed-Media Artists fits my interests just right. I love the more mute style, often with nature subjects. I went to a local art exhibition in the countryside that had this style and I fell in love with it. I wanted to learn how to do it. But...I don't seem to have any surviving photos from that excursion to use as inspiration. Now I have this book. There's only a few tutorials, but at least the examples throughout the book are gorgeous and I can just study them without step-by-step instruction. I think the important take away is to get a feel on how to use different materials together and experiment from there. There doesn't seem to be any intricate technique like some painting books, so readers and jump into the fun part without fear of screwing up too much.… (mer)
