I thought author, Deborah Batterman did a nice job of writing this book. It is not the author's fault that I just couldn't find that strong, human, emotional connection to the characters. Therefore, my reading experience was slow reading for me. Plus, there were moments when what I was reading was not sinking in. Yet, the story itself was good.

The relationship between Rachel and her Uncle Jake was nice. I liked the fact that he communicates with her through postcards. Sadly, postcards have gone to the wayside with the internet. However, I can remember getting excited when I received a postcard. In that moment, you could imagine that location from the picture on the front.

The story did pick up some speed about the half way mark for me. All and all through, while this book may not have hit me in all the right places, I would try another book out by this author.

Although well written I found I would get really into a story and then it would lose my interest. 2.5 stars

This is a wonderful collection of short stories written by a gifted writer who spotlights the highs and lows of motherhood. Writing with a poignancy and perfection, Deborah Batterman, a yet-to-be-discovered gem in the art of fiction, picked out the humorous and nearly holy moments in life between mothers and daughters to showcase in her book. This is a book not to be missed.

MY REVIEW
Honestly, I found this one a little difficult to get through. That is not to say that this book is poorly written. I found that I read more of the book by reading the individual stories in between other book reviews. I could see these individual stories being printed in the big name Women's Magazine's. The stories are detailed, and as the blurb above says are about everyday objects that we all have in our own homes.
The one I felt I liked the most was actually the first one titled SHOES, the way the daughter identified with her mother and was trying to tell her mother to leave her father if she really wasn't happy etc, I actually felt I identified most closely with that one too.
Some of the stories may seem light and fluffy, but when you read them there is a deeper moral or meaning to them.
To be honest these stories are not specifically the genres I usually read so read between other reviews where a change from the norm.
So did I enjoy it? I thought the individual stories were good. Would I recommend? Probably, to friends who would read this type of genre.
